Mrs. Cox's English Literature and Composition II students had a unique learning experience when folk art expert Tom Wells visited their class to share the incredible work of Thomson's own ZB Armstrong!

Armstrong, a local outsider artist, began creating his distinct folk art after experiencing a vision in his 60s that urged him to stop "wasting your time" because "the end of the world is coming." Every piece he created features his signature grid-like calendar, a relentless counting down until the end of time.

This visit tied directly into the class' recent literary analysis of Edgar Allan Poe's The Masque of the Red Death, J.K. Rowling's The Tale of the Three Brothers, and William Shakespeare's Seven Ages of Man. Each of these works explores the themes of mortality and the inevitable passage of time, the same theme Armstrong captured visually right here in Thomson.

A huge thanks to Mr. Wells for bringing local history and art into our literature discussions!

SkillsUSA will host its first Blood Drive of the school year next Friday, Aug. 28, from 10 a.m.-3 p.m. The community is invited, and we hope you plan to donate that day! Any students interested in donating, must meet all qualifications and must have signed parent permission. Student permission forms are available from Mrs. Rosier or from Ms. Heacock.

Don't forget Senior Parent is TONIGHT! 3rdAscent will be here at 4:45 p.m. to assist with Class Ring and Letter Jacket orders if you would like to arrive early.

3rd Ascent will be on campus Tuesday, Aug. 18, during all lunch periods to size students interested in purchasing class rings or letter jackets. Orders will be taken through Friday, Aug. 21. Payment in full is due for letter jackets before the order will be placed.

Orders may also be placed Tuesday evening prior to the Senior Parent Meeting beginning at 4:45 p.m. Coaches must sign the form indicating letter jacket eligibility before an order will be placed.

The next ordering opportunity is Sept. 11 during all lunch periods.
