📚 When students become the teachers, learning comes to life!

Recently, students in Mrs. Robertson’s 8th-grade math classes took their learning to the next level while exploring how to interpret distance-time graphs!

After practicing the new concept together, students stepped into the role of teacher assistants—working with classmates to explain their thinking, answer questions, and help their peers better understand the graphs.

There’s something pretty special about the moment a student realizes, “I know this well enough to teach someone else!” These experiences not only strengthen math skills, but also build confidence, communication, collaboration, and leadership.

We love watching our Jackets grow from learners into leaders! 💛

No Internet? No Problem!

During Thursday’s internet blackout, Mrs. Watson’s Broadcasting students turned a technology-free moment into a chance to get creative with a hilarious activity called “Explain It Badly!”

Students drew a random topic or idea and had to explain it in the most hilariously confusing way possible—without actually saying what it was! Their classmates then had to figure out what they were describing.

It was a fun way to practice communication, creativity, quick thinking, and thinking outside the box—all while giving the class plenty of laughs!

Sometimes the best activities happen when the Wi-Fi doesn’t! 💛💙

🔴🟠🟡 Happy International Dot Day! 🟢🔵🟣

Yesterday, Mrs. Glass and Mrs. Esch’s classes celebrated International Dot Day, a special day inspired by Peter H. Reynolds’ book The Dot that encourages creativity, courage, and self-expression! 🎨✨

After reading The Dot, students let their imaginations take over as they created their very own unique dot masterpieces. No two were alike! ❤️

Then it was time for a Dot Party! Students enjoyed snacks and treats with one important requirement—they had to be round, of course! ⚪️🍪🍩

It was a fun-filled celebration of creativity and a great reminder that sometimes something as simple as one little dot can be the beginning of something amazing! 💙💛

📚🎉 BINGO + BOOKS = A GREAT NIGHT AT TCMS! 🎉📚

We had SO much fun at Bingo for Books last night! 💙💛 Families joined us for an evening filled with Bingo, laughter, literacy, and—of course—BOOKS! 📖

Throughout the evening, families learned helpful literacy tips and strategies they can use at home to support their students, and plenty of lucky Bingo winners went home with new books to enjoy! 🏆📚

And the fun didn’t stop there! Families also had the opportunity to shop our Book Fair while they were here and find even more great reads. 🛍️📖

A BIG thank you to all of our teachers and families who joined us and helped make Bingo for Books such a fun and memorable evening! We love bringing our Jacket families together and celebrating a love of reading! 🐝💙💛

🏛️🐴 Greek Mythology Comes to Life at TCMS! 🐴🏛️

When exploring the fascinating metamorphoses of Greek mythology, sometimes you just have to play the part...even if that means sporting a pair of donkey ears! 🫏👂

In Greek mythology, King Midas was given donkey ears after daring to suggest that Apollo didn’t deserve first place in a musical competition. Thankfully, our students’ donkey ears were all in the name of learning and having a little fun along the way!

❤️🤍💙 Strength. Character. Community. 🇺🇸

Last Friday, our TCMS Girls’ Conditioning classes participated in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb at the Jackets’ Nest, coming together with unity, compassion, and respect to honor the firefighters and first responders who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

Each year, Coach Anderson encourages our girls to take part in this meaningful tradition—not only as a physical challenge, but as an opportunity to build character, compassion, unity, and a heart for serving others.

The experience is a powerful reminder that strength is about more than what we can accomplish physically. True strength is also found in serving others, showing compassion, honoring sacrifice, and making a positive difference in our community.

⚡🔬 Science Comes to Life at TCMS! 🔬⚡

The Mobile MoLab from Tallahassee is visiting TCMS this week, bringing an exciting in-house field trip right to our students!

Throughout the week, our sixth-grade science classes are stepping into the MoLab to explore, experiment, and learn all about electricity through hands-on activities. ⚡💡 Students are putting science concepts into action while discovering how electricity works in the world around them.

We love opportunities that get our students learning, experimenting, and having fun with science! 💙💛

🎶🐝 TCMS Band Students Fine-Tune Their Skills! 🐝🎶

On Saturday, TCMS Band students spent the day learning, practicing, and growing as musicians during the first of two Honor Band Audition Clinics! 🎺🥁🎷

Students worked on major scales, chromatic scales, and prepared etudes as they get ready for upcoming District, Region, and All-State Honor Band auditions. They also had the incredible opportunity to receive specialized instruction from accomplished musicians and educators from the Tallahassee and Valdosta areas.

One of the highlights of the day was seeing former TCMS Band students—now high school musicians—return to mentor the next generation of Yellow Jacket musicians! 💙💛 It was a wonderful full-circle moment that reflects the strength of our band family.

Under the direction of William Majors, the TCMS Band program continues to provide opportunities that challenge students to grow in skill, confidence, and musicianship.

September is National School Attendance Awareness Month!

Let's make attendance a priority at TCMS!
Too many absences—excused or unexcused—can keep students from succeeding in school and in life.
How many are too many? 10% of the school year—17 total days per year (excused + unexcused), or 2 days per month—can knock students off track.

The wait is over! 🎉 Our Scholastic Book Fair opens TODAY and will be here through Friday, September 25! 💙💛

Students will have the opportunity to visit the Book Fair with their ELA classes during the next two weeks. It’s the perfect time to discover a new favorite book, find the next book in a favorite series, or pick up something fun to read! 📖❤️
