Article 11 of the City Charter states, βThere shall be established, conducted, maintained, supported, and provided for by local taxation and otherwise . . . a system of public schools in and for the City of Thomasville, Thomas County, Georgia.β The City Charter provides for the election and composition of the board of education and grants the board the authority to develop its budget and to levy taxes. The attendance district for the school system is the city limits of Thomasville. Out-of-district Georgia residents are admitted on a space-available basis. The Thomasville Community has shown strong fiscal support for its city school district, twice passing referendums to levy a one cent Educational Special Local Option Sales Tax ESPLOST to support capital improvements for the district. The first referendum which passed in 2002 funded new roofs and air-conditioning systems for all of the schools and miscellaneous building renovations system-wide. The ESPLOST was renewed in 2007 and is funding the construction of classroom additions at the three elementary schools, technology upgrades, fine arts equipment, and numerous renovation projects. Approximately 2900 students are currently enrolled in five schools within the district. The district is comprised of three PreK-5 elementary buildings, one 6-8 middle school, and one 9-12 high school. The Scholars Academy for grades 6-12 operates as a school-within-a-school program and is housed on the middle school campus. All schools within the district qualify for and receive Title I funding as school-wide programs. Learning doesn't stop when school is out, and seven Thomasville City Schools students recently had the opportunity to expand their knowledge and explore future careers in healthcare through the Opportunities Academy at Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine (PCOM).
Throughout the week, students gained hands-on experience alongside healthcare professionals and PCOM faculty, participating in activities such as CPR certification, Stop the Bleed training, suturing, intubation, anatomy labs, sports medicine techniques, career exploration, and college readiness workshops.
We are especially proud that five of the participants are members of our Athletes in Medicine program, while two students represented Ms. Peralta's class.
Our students also earned special recognition during the academy:
π Ruby was named Scholar of the Day
π Jaden and Kaylin recorded the fastest times in the Stop the Bleed Challenge
At Thomasville City Schools, we believe learning happens everywhere. Opportunities like these help students discover their passions, explore future career pathways, and bring our Bulldog +1 mission to life.
Congratulations to all seven students for representing Thomasville City Schools so well and making the most of this incredible summer learning experience! β€οΈπ

ππΎ Another Fantastic Week of B.A.R.K.! πΎπ
Learning, growing, and having funβthat's what B.A.R.K. is all about!
This past week, students continued building important literacy and math skills through engaging, hands-on learning experiences. Ms. Harris' kindergarten group worked on subitizing and number identification, helping our youngest learners strengthen their number sense and confidence with math.
Meanwhile, students in Ms. Augustine's first-grade group stayed busy learning, collaborating, and exploring new concepts through a fun STEAM project as they continue their summer learning journey.
We are so proud of the hard work, enthusiasm, and growth we're seeing from our Bulldogs this summer. Keep up the great work!
