Thomaston-Upson School System Social Media Rules of Engagement

The Thomaston-Upson School System uses social media as a communication tool to share important educational and extracurricular information with our stakeholders and to engage in an open and respectful dialogue. To help us accomplish this goal, please follow our social media rules of engagement when making comments on our district and/or school pages. Social media pages are not intended to circumvent regular communication channels for sharing personnel and student issues and concerns. Please contact the school or the district office with matters involving personnel and/or students. The Thomaston-Upson School System reserves the right to delete comments that:

-contain abusive, discriminatory or inappropriate language or statements. This includes remarks that contain obscenities and hate or bias towards others. We are a public school district, and all comments should be appropriate for even the youngest of social media users.
-identify students and/or staff in a defamatory, abusive, or negative manner.
-are off-subject.
-violate the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)
-promote a service or product or are considered spam.
-do not adhere to copyright and fair use laws.
-break the law or encourage others to do so. Furthermore, the page administrators reserve the right to not post or remove any comments at any time, for any reason. If you have feedback or would like to report an inappropriate comment for us to review, send an email to [email protected]

While we make every effort to respond to questions in a timely manner, we ask that you do not post questions as comments to a social media post. Please address questions to the Facebook administrators in a private message. We also ask that you understand that no one is monitoring TU district and school social media pages during non-working hours; and, even then, social media administrators have additional duties at the schools or district office. Someone will respond to your question during school hours. All statements and viewpoints expressed in the comments are strictly those of the commenter alone, and do not constitute an official position of the Thomaston-Upson School System unless they are posted by the original author (who is an authorized representative of the District) or by a subject matter expert responding on behalf of the District. Repeated abuse of the TU Social Media Rules of Engagement may lead to a user being blocked from commenting on our pages.

What an AMAZING way to kick off the day! Our Attendance Awareness Kickoff brought the energy, excitement, and encouragement as we welcomed our students and celebrated the importance of showing up every day!

A huge congratulations to Upson-Lee High School for winning the Attendance Belt this month! 🏆 Thank you to our school leaders, educators, and board members who showed up to cheer on our students and remind them that they matter!

CELEBRATING EXCELLENCE IN SCHOOL NUTRITION!

At Tuesday night's Board of Education meeting, the Thomaston-Upson County Board of Education proudly recognized the Thomaston-Upson School Nutrition Department for receiving the Cafeteria Award of Excellence from the Georgia Department of Education's School Nutrition Division!

This prestigious recognition highlights the department's commitment to providing nutritious, high-quality meals while creating a positive dining experience for our students.

To qualify for this award, schools must demonstrate excellence in several key areas, including incorporating Georgia Grown foods into at least 20% of weekly breakfast and lunch meals, maintaining an "A" health inspection score, achieving student lunch participation rates at or above the state average, demonstrating strong school and community support, and implementing effective nutrition marketing and promotional efforts.

This recognition is a testament to the hard work, dedication, and pride our School Nutrition staff bring to their cafeterias each day. Their efforts go far beyond preparing and serving meals. They play an important role in supporting student health, well-being, and academic success.

It’s Homecoming Week in Knight Country!

Homecoming activities are underway, and the excitement is building throughout our schools and community! Students and staff are participating in dress-up days throughout the week and showing their Knight Pride. Around town, local businesses are joining in the celebration by decorating their storefronts in black and purple!

Homecoming Parade — Thursday at 5:00 p.m.
We invite everyone to come out, line the parade route, and enjoy this annual Homecoming tradition. It’s always a great opportunity to celebrate our students, schools, and community!

Homecoming Game — Friday at 7:30 p.m.
Come out to Matthews Field and cheer on the Knights for the big Homecoming game!

If you plan to tailgate before Friday night’s game, please remember that Thomaston-Upson Schools has established tailgating guidelines that must be followed, and an application is required.

Celebrating Our FY27 Teacher of the Year!

Thomaston-Upson County Schools is proud to recognize our FY27 Teacher of the Year, Mrs. Madison Pogue!

Mrs. Pogue is a fourth-grade ELA and Social Studies teacher at Upson-Lee Elementary School. She has been a member of the ULES family since 2022 and brings 11 years of teaching experience to the classroom.

Mrs. Pogue’s impact goes far beyond the lessons she teaches each day. She leads by example, showing her students the importance of kindness, gratitude, and treating others with respect.

One parent shared this special reflection about Mrs. Pogue:

“I smile remembering the ‘little things’ Mrs. Pogue does to set a positive example for her students. Anytime our children have given her the smallest treat or gift, she gives them a handwritten thank-you note. Is there anything more needed in our world than teaching young children how to express gratitude for every small and big thing life has given them?”

It is those “little things” that often make the biggest difference in the lives of students.

Today is National Custodian Day, and we are proud to celebrate the incredible custodians of Thomaston-Upson Schools!

Each morning, our students and staff walk into schools that are clean, safe, and welcoming—and that does not happen by accident. Our custodians work tirelessly, often behind the scenes, to care for our schools and create spaces where students can focus on learning and where staff, families, and visitors feel welcome.

Their hard work, dedication, and pride in our buildings reflect the pride we all share in Thomaston-Upson Schools.

Today, we say THANK YOU to our custodians for everything you do each and every day. Your work makes a difference, and we appreciate you!
