From senior projects to summer camps, precision is everywhere at Nicholls!

We are officially in the calm before the storm between the end of the Louisiana Line Camp and the start of the Manning Passing Academy Manning Passing Academy

If you look closely right near the practice fields, you’ll spot a piece of our campus infrastructure: a Nicholls Geomatics control benchmark. Total coincidence that it’s right next to the action, but it was actually established by three of our Spring 2026 graduating seniors for their Geomatics Capstone Project!

Whether you’re mapping out coordinates or running a flawless route down the sideline, success is all about hitting your marks.

Proud to see our Geomatics grads leaving a permanent footprint right where the action will be happening soon!

Louisiana Line Camp is officially in session at Nicholls!

Whether you’re dominating the line of scrimmage or mapping boundaries with the Geomatics program, this campus knows how to hold its ground.

A conjunction happens when planets align perfectly on the celestial sphere. Captured here are Venus, Mercury, and Jupiter sharing a tight cosmic coordinate space. For centuries, land surveyors relied on these exact planetary paths and celestial positions to establish true baselines and map the unknown. Today, this trio is a brilliant reminder that everything we measure on Earth is bound by the geometry of the universe.

Campus is a ghost town for the summer, but the CAD lab still has a very tiny, very green occupant.

This benchmark has seen some things over the years... but an impending wasn’t on the radar when it was established!

This spot was originally picked because it felt safe and permanent. It’s a perfect reminder of why surveyors have to be incredibly vigilant when setting benchmarks…you always have to think steps ahead and anticipate future land development, even if you can’t predict a coffee shop!

Fast forward to today, and our quiet spot is buzzing with excavators and construction traffic as the campus prepares for its newest caffeine hub.

We are 100% ready to trade the heat for a venti iced coffee, we just need to make sure this monument survives the construction!

Geomatics teaches us how to read the land, but moments like this remind us that music is a map of the human spirit.

Modern geomatics meets 19th-century engineering along the New Orleans Riverfront.

Saw these beautiful tall ships making their first stop for the national Sail 250 celebration. New Orleans is officially launching the country’s maritime tribute to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary, honoring the city’s legacy as a vital historical gateway.

Looking at these hulls, it’s wild to think that before GPS/GNSS and modern remote sensing technologies, these vessels were the ultimate data collection platforms mapping uncharted waters. Shoutout to the early hydrographic surveyors…talk about a tough day at the office! Respect to the crews then and now.

Let us never forget. Today, we pause to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice for our country.

Where the nation’s energy demands meet the edge of the Louisiana coast.

Port Fourchon is the gatekeeper to the Gulf, servicing over 16% of the entire U.S. crude oil supply. But look closer at these waters; right alongside massive offshore vessels are working shrimpers, fragile marshes, and a highly vulnerable ecosystem facing rapid land loss.

Protecting both our economic engine and our environment takes precise, real-time data. That’s where the geomatics profession fits in.

Nicholls Geomatics, “closest to the coast“, helps to train and prepare these geomatics professionals. Through hydrographic surveying, high-precision GPS, and drone mapping, Geomatics bridges the gap by:

Supporting Energy: Mapping safe navigation channels and monitoring critical infrastructure.

Protecting the Environment: Tracking shoreline erosion and precisely guiding massive coastal restoration projects.
