Nan Gray Davis Elementary Nan Gray Davis School was organized in 1965. It is named in honor of Miss Nan Gray Davis. In 1921, she came to teach at Theodore High School. W.

Miss Davis began her career as an elementary teacher in Escambia County. In introducing her to the faculty, Principal F. Breitling, with whom Miss Davis had previously taught, made this prophetic remark, "For serveral years we have had quite a turn over in teacher personnel, but now I think we have a teacher who will stick". And "stick" she did for thirty-five years. When Miss Davis retired in 1958, she continued her passion for teaching, always finding a child to coach, the maid or yardman with an educational problem, a Sunday School class in need of a teacher, or someone upon whom she could bestow the blessing of her teaching. After she was stricken with a heart attack, she taught lessons of patience, courage, hope and faith to those who ministered unto her. The gentle soul of Miss Nan Gray Davis passed away on January 30, 1963. Miss Nan Gray Davis' influence and love of teaching and learning still lives on at Nan Gray Davis.

Please see the message from Mr. Threadgill regarding school closure for Friday, Oct. 9th.

Dear ,

As Superintendent, I must make all decisions with the safety and well-being of our students and employees in mind. We all know and recognize that weather conditions can be unpredictable and forecasts may change quickly.

After careful consideration of the latest weather information and the potential for inclement weather in our area, I cannot risk anyone’s safety, as again, the weather conditions currently remain extremely unpredictable. Therefore, all Mobile County Public Schools campuses and offices will be closed on Friday, October 9, 2026. I completely understand that closing schools can create challenges for families, and I do not take that impact lightly.

I appreciate your patience, understanding, and flexibility as we navigate circumstances that are ultimately beyond our control. Please continue to monitor official MCPSS communication platforms for any additional information or updates.

Sincerely,

Chresal D. Threadgill

Congratulations to Ms. Buntin who was honored last week!

Congratulations to MCPSS educators Shelby Harwood, with Mary B Austin and Angeline Buntin with Nan Gray Davis Elementary on completing the STEM Catalyst Initiative for Workforce-Ready Educators!

Through this partnership between Modiv EDU, the Alabama STEM Council, and Propel Education, they completed three micro-credentials focused on practical, workforce-ready STEM instruction. Today, they showcased the work they completed in their classrooms to principals, teachers, central office staff, and other distinguished guests at Ram Hall on the University of Mobile campus.

We are proud of their commitment to creating meaningful classroom experiences that help prepare students for the future!

πŸ“š Attendance Matters Initiative

Every Day. Every Student. Every Opportunity.

Our Attendance Matters Initiative is designed to encourage students to attend school every day and arrive on time. Every school day is an opportunity to learn, grow, build relationships, and become a successful Bobcat!

🎯 Our Goal

Increase daily student attendance and reduce chronic absenteeism by making being at school something students are excited to celebrate.

⭐ How It Works
Monday–Thursday: Students attend school each day and arrive on time.
Friday Reward: Students who have been present Monday through Thursday may come out of uniform on Friday according to school guidelines.
Students will be recognized throughout the year for excellent attendance and improved attendance.
Classes and grade levels can participate in attendance challenges and celebrations.
πŸ’™ Why Attendance Matters

When students are at school, they have more opportunities to:

πŸ“– Learn new skills
🧠 Build academic confidence
🀝 Connect with teachers and friends
🌟 Participate in school activities
🎯 Stay on track toward their goals
πŸ“£ Our Message to Students
