Thank you to our student ambassadors, Victoria and Callen, for doing a grueling cleanup around our construction site in the sweltering heat.
Summaries of what students enjoyed most about the 2023-2024 school year.
10th-12th grade students completed their final assessment of some of their projects (IB Theory of Knowledge, IB CAS, Independent study etc.) at Lonestar College. Communication and presentations are a big part of our school from 4 years of age so to challenge students as they get older we like to take them off the comforts of their school campus to something new, bigger, and exciting (or intimidating). Here they touch on various topics and projects they worked on throughout the year.
Grade 7/8 invited their parents to a lunch and learn where the parents became the students and the students were their teachers. Parents engaged in learning about science, humanities, theatre, art, and Edsi (engineering). This gives students the opportunity to reinforce what they have learned in class whilst also developing their communication skills.
End of year fun with house games and an assembly that recognised the learner profile characteristics of some of our students.
Flood brings great water play; picking from our peach tree; and thanks to the Woodpecker girls for beautifying our planters for graduation.
Ms. Anji and Ms. Mari on the rampage!
The Owls explored classification of all types of things in the world, and presented a short play, and their work highlighting their knowledge.
Early learning explored Shopping, including the use of money, during their last inquiry, which culminated in a Marketplace interactive presentation with parents.
Robins and Hummingbirds explored Simple Machines for their last inquiry. The shared their knowledge with the parents through a variety of demonstrations. Robins created an outdoor carnival and Hummingbirds created an arcade, filled with games.
Woodpeckers demonstrated some of their knowledge about forces, to parents, in their last End of Inquiry session.
Grade 7/8 rounded out their PE fencing unit with a competitive tournament in front of their parents. Congratulations Logan & Karina for placing number 1 in their division. Thank you to The Woodlands International Fencing Club (https://www.facebook.com/woodlandsfencingclub/), specifically Summer and Khariton, for hosting us last term.
We had another great event celebrating the Arts with our silent and live auction, along with a full school play. The evening was capped off by a visit from one of our alumni, Usman, who played the saxophone, who was later joined by one of our parents.
A little late on this post, but lower school students celebrated their dad's for Father's day with hot dogs, soccer, fishing, and water play. Feedback from dad's was that they felt it was better than Mother's Day! Mum's we have to outdo them next year :).
We celebrated our Kindergarten, Grade 6, and Senior students for the 2023-2024 school year. Onto the next journey!
Great end of year staff celebration at Rise Restaurant where we cooked our own dessert soufflés.
Thank you to all of our families who spoiled both teachers and admin with goodies throughout Teacher's Appreciation week. We appreciate you too!
The Woodpeckers visited the Flight Museum as part of their inquiry/science unit.
Upper school students (grade 7-12) had a fantastic time at the YMCA ropes course in Creekside. Was a great way to blow off steam and do a little team building.
A little Mother's Day Celebration in lower school.
Who said Financial Accounts were boring? Some of our diploma students allocated accounts to Financial Statements for a business - should we call this Creative Accounting?
We are still travelling in western and central Europe in our Cultures class.Last week, we had the pleasure of receiving Maya’s mom, Mecki, as a guest speaker for Germany. Her perspective and her anecdotes were very interesting and informative. Mecki also treated us with some delicious German treats.Vielen Danke! This morning , we had a chocolate blind tasting to decide if Swiss chocolate was better than Belgium chocolate. It was a close call but 53% of the students favored Swiss chocolate. What do you think?
Water is a great play opportunity, under close supervision of course 😜
9th-12th grade students visited Texas A&M to engage in some physics experiments which were also tied to chemistry and math. We thank A&M for hosting our students.
This term 7th/8th grade begin fencing with the Woodlands Fencing Academy, as part of their P.E. Unit, which goes nicely with their humanities unit in which they are studying the Renaissance period, and their literature unit in which they are studying the Count of Monte Cristo.
Smores fun with 7th/8th grade, just for the fun of it.
Cunae was well represented in the North Houston Children’s Choir! Maddie Flick, and Spencer and Brie Andrade were in the choir and got to perform with the Houston Symphony and two adult choirs. Kudos to these talented students.
