Week of the Young Child!
This week is sponsored by the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) to promote the importance of early childhood education. The earlier you start with the holistic development of a child the better because the interests they develop during this time stay with them throughout their lives. The early childhood years, from birth till age eight, lay the foundation for a child’s later success in their academic and social life. Therefore, the thoughtful investment in a child’s education during these years can go a really long way.
ICDC will celebrate The Week of the Young Child with Music Monday, Tasty Tuesday, Work Together Wednesday and Arty Thursday. Stay tuned for photos of the learning in action!
Each year, on March 31st, children and adults alike pick up their favorite colors for National Crayon Day. Opening up a box of crayons opens up a world of imagination and hours of fun. Coloring and drawing improves fine motor skills, encourages focus, and nurtures creativity.
Why not celebrate today by creating a masterpiece with your favorite young artist?
Playing outside is not just fun for kids, it's also crucial for their development. Outdoor play promotes physical activity, social skills, creativity, and a love for nature. These students know how to have fun under the sun as they explore, learn, and grow!
Thank you to the Transition to Kindergarten class for this song!

Spring is officially here! ICDC students are excited to enjoy the sunshine this spring season! It's a great day to spend outdoors - - pack a picnic or take a walk. Spend time in the sunshine while you can!
Happy St. Patrick’s Day! Today celebrates a Christian Saint named Patrick, a missionary who helped to bring Christianity to Ireland.
Why do we wear green today? One reason is because of Ireland’s nickname, The Emerald Isle, and the green stripe in the Irish flag. Another reason? An old folklore that says wearing green makes us invisible to leprechauns, which like to pinch anyone they can see.
National Children’s Craft Day is celebrated on March 14 every year. This holiday was tailored to introduce children to the vibrant world of crafting and to encourage them to try their hand at it. Crafting is an incredibly useful hobby to have. Not only is it a fun way for kids to occupy their time, but it also aids in their cognitive and motor development.
Art crafts are an important enhancement to our daily lesson plans at ICDC, as they support creativity and patience.
Happy Spring Break! No school or partial day programs this week. Wishing all of our families a safe and fun-filled week.
Preschoolers are the stars of the future! We celebrate National Preschoolers Day today, the second Friday in March, by recognizing their curiosity, creativity, and enthusiasm for learning in our challenging educational environment at ICDC!
Since the first book that was ever written, many authors have made their mark and have been remembered for their remarkable work. Theodor Seuss Geisel, better known by his pen name, Dr. Seuss, has authored some of the most popular children’s books of all time, selling over 600 million copies of 60 books!
Given Dr. Seuss’ impact on the reading world, his birthday (March 2) commences Read Across America Week and Read Across America Month. ICDC students had fun celebrating the importance of reading and exploring exciting book selections throughout last week!

FUN FACT FRIDAY!
February 24th is National Tortilla Chip Day, a day that celebrates a crunchy chip that provides a multitude of ways to enjoy it! Tortilla chips are made from corn tortillas cut into wedges and then fried and most commonly served with salsa, chile con queso, guacamole, queso or other dips. Typically made with yellow corn, tortillas can also be made with white, blue, or red corn. Even though tortilla chips have always been considered to be Mexican food, known as tostadas, they were first mass-produced in Los Angeles in the late 1940s. Rebecca Webb Carranza receives credit for making the crisp chips popular. She and her husband operated a deli and tortilla factory in Los Angeles, and its creation happened almost by accident! Inspiration struck when the tortilla manufacturing machine discarded the misshapen tortilla. Carranza realized they could be cut into triangles and fried. She then sold them for a dime a bag at the El Zarape Tortilla Factory. Carranza received the Golden Tortilla Award in 1994 for her contribution to the Mexican food industry.
