Every year, Education Resource Group (ERG) uses data from the Texas Education Agency (TEA) to analyze student outcomes and spending in public education in Texas. The most productive school districts are those that have both high student outcomes and are financially efficient. Now that the TEA has released 2022 financial data, ERG would like to recognize the following Independent School Districts as our Top 10 Most Productive School Districts. Want more information? An efficient organization achieves maximum productivity with minimum wasted expense. For more than two decades, Education Resource Group (ERG) has measured the efficiency of Texas Public School Districts answering the question, how effective is each district is at converting their financial resources into academic performance?

The ERG District Efficiency Matrix displays the 200 largest districts in Texas which represents an enrollment of over 4.1 million students. The horizontal axis plots spending, with high spending on the left and low spending on the right, while the vertical axis plots academic outcomes (adjusted for demographics), with districts that have high student outcomes at the top and those with low outcomes at the bottom. This framework allows us to quickly identify school districts that do both well – those who generate high student outcomes at a relatively low rate of spending (highlighted in the dark green box in the upper right). These districts should serve as best practice models for all public school districts in Texas. Which school districts are those? Stay tuned ….
