The Woodlands area private schools reopen with focus on smaller, in-person classes

communityimpact.com While local school districts pushed the start of in-person learning back to September, officials from several private schools said the demand for on-campus instruction prompted their decisions to offer traditional classes from the start of the school year.

Our Broadcasting class is underway and filming for the first time in preparation for Friday's announcements! Already, it's evident how students are learning poise, communication and teamwork.

Geometry students used candy Dots and toothpicks to construct the five platonic solids. Ms. Murphy led the class in a discussion about what constitutes a vertex, edge, and a face. This hands-on activity gave students the opportunity to develop a better understanding of points, lines, and planes - the first concept in geometry.

AP Psychology students learned the importance of operational definitions in psychology experiments through the use of LEGO pieces. Each group was given a set number of LEGO pieces to build a figure. Then they wrote instructions for the other groups to build the same figure from scratch. Students competed to see whose instructions led to the best replica.

Growing Godly Girls met for the first time today and discussed the unique challenges girls face in today's society and what it means to be a Godly Girl. There were heartfelt and powerful moments as Mrs. Dew and Mrs. DeLeon shared their personal stories of faith in God. We are excited to see the ways God grows these young ladies.

HS students learned about 9/11 in history class today as Mr. Craig went through an hour by hour run down of the day's events, and Ms. Shilling led her class in a Socratic method discussion. #NeverForget

Hannah, chemistry intern for Mrs. DeLeon, was neutralizing a very strong Nitric acid using NaOH (sodium hydroxide). The acid had actually dissolved its label so she titrated it to determine the molarity. Then, she used that information to safely dispose of the very strong acid. We love how STEAM^2 challenges our students to use critical thinking and problem-solving skills.

Students worked with a partner on a map skills activity where they competed for speed and validity. Together, they located places of importance, measured distance using a map scale, processed key map instructions and more. They met the challenges with a positive attitude and persevered through to victory!

Second graders read "Mercy Watson to the Rescue," as one of their summer books. In class, they reread portions of the book and acted out the final scene, which included a celebration over breakfast. Mercy’s favorite food is “toast with a great deal of butter," so second graders ate toast and made a “toast” to Mercy Watson.
