I only recently hopped on the S*x and the City fandom, not having watched it during its original run.

After binge watching all six seasons, the two movies, then And Just Like That, I was struck by my own “and just like that moment.”

I realized that Carrie Bradshaw was a shining example of simple, intentional living.

When you look beyond the many pairs of Manolos and closet full of couture gowns, there was something deepand meaningful about the way Carrie lived her life that provides real life inspiration for simple living.

Today on Substack I’m sharing the surprising lessons hidden inside Carrie’s friendships, reflections, and lifestyle.

Message in a Bag 08/30/2025

Last Friday as I hung my teacher bag in the foyer closet, it felt heavy. Not with things, but with the sadness of closing a chapter in my own story...

Looks can be deceiving.⤵️

We see all the beautiful homes online and assume “they have money” or “that must have been expensive”

(I do it too and I know better.)

The truth is you can create a beautiful and stylish home on a tight budget.

When we moved into this house a few years ago, I had to make do with random pieces of furniture in my breakfast room.

It was not my style and I was a little embarrassed of it. (That’s another topic for another day.) But I had a vision!

I scoured the internet to bring it to life. And within a year, I brougjt my vision to life.

Now this view of my breakfast room is one of my favorites!

Those Thomasville cane back chairs? A vintage find on Facebook Marketplace.

That table? Another Facebook Marketplace find.

The gorgeous pitcher? I snatched it up from my sister’s vintage and antique booth.

The art was a steal from an estate sale. And I got the chandelier from an interior designer who was selling it on Facebook Marketplace after it didn’t work in a project,

I spent under 1k, over a period of months so it wasnt so hard on my pocket, to bring my vision life.

Thats the beauty of shopping secondhand.

In my latest blog post, I’m sharing a thrifted tour of the rest of the downstairs as well as my tips and tricks for shopping and decorating secondhand.

Got paper clutter? Let’s talk about how to get rid of it. ⤵️

To effectively eliminate clutter, you need to implement 4 key systems.

🗝️ A Drop Zone where all the papers land when they enter your home.
🗝️ A Family Command Center to serve as the information hub for everyday coming and going. Think calendars, schedules, tickets, permission slips, etc.
🗝️ A Mail Processing station for sorting and designating every piece of mail.
🗝️ A Filing System for keeping important documents. This includes a safe and storage solutions for the kids’ school work, art work, and awards.

Go to sharonehines.com/paper for step-by-step guidance for setting up and organizing these systems in your home.

Life can be so confusing sometimes, and grows even more frustrating as we seek clarity but don’t find it.

I was in that mindset this past weekend when I realized…

A lack of clarity or not having a clear sense of direction is an invitation to just be present in the moment.

Be still.

Know you’re being divinely guided.

Everything will work out for your good.

I was sitting in my car, enjoying a snack when I noticed the orange and white barrier to the path ahead lying on the ground.

For years, that single board blocked off the path, keeping people from entering.

But the barrier is gone now, even if only symbolically. And it got me wondering…

What barriers to entry, perceived or real, are keeping you, and me, from entering the life we want, from proceeding on our journey?

For me, the most obvious and seemingly largest barrier is money.

Money to travel to all the places I want to go.

Money to makeover the kitchen or paint the house exterior.

Money to make a social impact.

I’m sure there are more that will surface as I continue to ponder my question. (I have an inkling one has to do with staying in a cycle of forcing myself to fit inside certain boxes, ones where I’m “making do” with what’s in front of me. But I’ll save diving into that one for a future article.)

Anyway, what are your barriers?

Clutter? Money, like mine? A job you don’t like? A stale relationship? Food? Weight?

Share your answer in the comments. Your willingness to be vulnerable encourages others to know they’re not alone and helps remove the shame barrier.

(Ooooh! Shame. That’s a big one.)

Let’s discuss ⬇️
