Happy Holidays from SafeWay Driving! We wish you a joyful and safe day.
Day 11: Feeling Emotional 😄😭
On a day-to-day basis all humans experience a range of emotions. While unavoidable, emotions can have an impact on how we drive. Before stepping into a car, assess your emotions and decide if you should be behind-the-wheel. If possible, have a friend or family member drive or delay your drive to allow yourself to get in a clearer headspace.
Attention Adult Online Students: The Adult Online Driver Training Course is currently down. We expect to have these issues resolved by the end of business 12/24/2020. We sincerely apologize for this inconvenience. An update will be posted if there are any further delays or when the resolution is in place.
Thank you for your patience!
Day 10: Eating & Drinking ☕️
There’s nothing like hot chocolate and a sweet holiday treat during this cozy season. Enjoy those non-alcoholic holiday beverages and food before getting behind-the-wheel to avoid the extra distraction and potential hot liquid to your lap (ouch!).
Day 9: Fix Your Mirrors ☃️
When should you adjust your mirrors? Before or after putting your car in drive? If you guessed “before” – you are correct! Make sure your rear view and side view mirrors are in the correct placement before driving to avoiding fidgeting with them mid-drive.
Day 8: Oil Change 👩🔧
To be a responsible driver is to not only practice SAFE driving principles; it also requires taking care of one’s vehicle. Your vehicle needs an oil change every 5,000-7,500 miles, or as recommended by your vehicle owner's manual. Take care of your vehicle – it will thank you!
Day 7: Emergency Roadside Kits 🧰
Be prepared for unforeseen circumstances – your future self will thank you. Stock up on essentials like a jumper cable, flashlight, tire pressure gauge, tire jack, first aid kit, cell phone charger, etc.
Day 6: “No Parking” 🚫
Do you pay attention to “No Parking” road signs? While these signs may seem like an inconvenience, they are necessary for the safety of drivers, they reduce unnecessary obstructions, and they create clear expectations.
Day 5: Buckle-Up The SAFE Way 👍
Seatbelts prevent bodies from becoming projectiles in collisions. But if not used correctly, they aren’t able to work efficiently. The shoulder belt must fit across the chest and shoulder, and the lap belt must be low and snug on the hips and upper thighs. It’s evident that SafeWay Sammy needs a car seat!
Day 4: Fire Hydrant Distance 🚒
Parking at least 15 feet away from fire hydrants not only saves you from a parking violation, it also ensures that the fire department has space to access the fire hydrant in case of emergency.
Do you view using your turn signal as a necessary or optional step? Turn signals help us communicate with cars around us, telling them what we intend to do. Use your turn signal at least 100 feet before you change lanes or make a turn.
U Drive. U Text. U Pay.
If your eyes leave the road for 5 seconds at 60 MPH, you would have traveled 441 feet. That’s the length of one and a quarter football fields of driving blindly.
Turn off your phone, put it out of reach, or designate a passenger to hold it. Is that text really worth it? (NHTSA)
Day 1: Tire Check ⚙️
In 2017, 738 motor vehicle traffic fatalities were attributed to tire failure or malfunction. (NHTSA) Tire maintenance is extremely important as should never go over-looked. Have your tires balanced and rotated approximately every 7,000 miles, or when you get an oil change.
Do you recognize this road sign? Test your driving knowledge & tell us what this sign means in the comments!
To further improve our Teen Online Course, we will be undergoing routine maintenance tonight. The course will be unavailable tonight, Sunday December 10th, starting at 10:00pm CST for up to 3 hours. During this time your Driver Dashboard will be accessible but the eLearning platform will be out of service. We recommend all students save and exit the course before that time. Thank you for your cooperation and for choosing #SafeWayDriving!
