Faculty Friday | Meet Contemporary and Tap Faculty member Madeline Payne.

Madeline Payne is currently a junior at Sam Houston State University working towards her BFA in dance. She began her dance career at Boni’s Dance and Performing Arts Studio where she trained in numerous styles of dance. Madeline has also trained and competed with Koenig Dance Company for 3 years before making the transition to train pre-professionally with Artistic Soul Dance Company under the direction of Jade Whitmire. Madeline has attended SoulEscape, Rifflette, and the Elite Training Program with Kim McSwain which allowed her to learn from a variety of different dance educators around the country. Over the years, Madeline has been fortunate enough to learn from choreographers such as Terrill Mitchell, Jess Hendricks, Jason Gorman, Alexa Anderson, Justin Giles, Joshua Manculich, Andrew Noble, Collette Kerwick, and Anthony Morgerato. Recently she performed in The Iris by Lenorris Arnold in Houston, TX. Madeline is currently an apprentice with NobleMotion Dance Company under the direction of Andrew and Dionne Noble. She is grateful for everyone who has contributed to her art form.

Faculty Friday | Meet Contemporary Faculty member Juliette Wooden.

JULIETTE WOODEN is from Houston, Texas and started dancing at the age of 3 in a local dance studio. Juliette continued there until her sophomore year of high school when she launched into intense classical ballet and contemporary training at The Vitacca Dance Project in Downtown Houston. After graduating high school in 2015, Juliette attended The Boston Conservatory at Berklee where she studied under Kurt Douglas, Marcus Schulkind, Joy Davis, and Mario Zambrano and received her BFA. While in school, Juliette was a named scholar at the Boston Conservatory for the Pat and Al Houston Dance Scholarship and has performed in new works by Gregory Dawson, Tommy Waheed Evans, Robin Aren, and Roderik George, as well as danced in reconstructions by Doug Varone , Merce Cunningham, and Keith Thompson. Juliette has spent summers at Houston Ballet, Alonzo Kings Lines, Texas Ballet Theatre, Arts Umbrella, BalletX, and Peter Chu’s Chuthis. Juliette is now a company member with Rambert II in London, UK where she has worked with and performed works by Benoitswan Pouffer, Andrea Miller, Jermaine Spivey, Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, and Damien Jalet.

Faculty Friday | Meet Children's Program and Ballet Faculty member Kerry Godkins.

MS. KERRY GODKINS is a career classical ballet instructor with nearly 20 years of experience in educating young dancers in the greater Houston area. Ms. Godkins began her training in north Houston under the tutelage of Angela Jackson and Barbara LeGault at American Academy of Dance. There she danced as a principal dancer with the pre-professional company Houston Dance Theatre. She spent many summers on scholarship at some of the best schools in the country including the Joffrey Ballet School and Lines Contemporary Ballet.

Kerry has served on the distinguished faculty of Rowland’s School of Ballet and Kingwood Dance Theatre for 13 years. She was the ballet mistress for Houston Dance Theatre for eight years where she set and rehearsed many of the classics including Sleeping Beauty, Firebird and Paquita, to name a few. Ms. Godkins spent two years in College Station helping to build the infrastructure for a professional track classical ballet program. Ms. Godkins has served on the faculty for Houston Ballet Academy’s lower school summer intensives as well.

Faculty Friday | Meet Children's Program and Ballet Faculty member Jordan Brasfield.

Growing up in Louisiana, JORDAN received her classical ballet training from Constantin Apetrei, a graduate of the Bolshoi Ballet Academy, and Kelly Fortier of Dallas Ballet. She continued her training under Sheryl Rowland at the Rowland School of Ballet before entering the Houston Ballet Academy. Upon graduation, she attended The University of Oklahoma on a ballet scholarship. There, she studied under Mary Margaret Holt while performing with the Oklahoma Festival Ballet. Jordan is the recipient of scholarships to summer intensives with Joffery Ballet and North Carolina School of the Arts, and holds a BA in English Literature.

She has danced leading roles as Clara and Snow Queen in The Nutcracker, and danced the role of Cinderella as a guest artist for Beaumont Ballet Theater. Additionally, she performed as a guest artist for the Sandra Organ Dance Company and Kingwood Dance Theatre, and in several Southwestern Regional Ballet Festivals. Jordan has taught ballet to all ages as a guest teacher for Sheryl Rowland. Her dedication to ballet drives her to instill both a strong technical foundation in her students as well as a love of dance.

Faculty Friday | Meet Ballet Faculty member Maria Eugenia Bieberach Sanchez.

MARIA EUGENIA BIEBERACH SANCHEZ, ballet dancer and teacher, studied at Higher College of Ballet in Lima, Peru and graduated with honors. She was awarded a scholarship to pursue further training at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After being a company dancer at the Ballet Municipal de Lima Peru under Lucy Telge for a year, she became a lecturer at the same company. She was a Soloist at the National Ballet de Peru for 17 years.

She studied Pedagogics in Santiago de Chile. She was evaluated by the Royal Academy of Dance in Great Britain and received a distinction with honors. She has been a lecturer and teacher in several ballet schools in Peru. She was Ballet Mistress at Artisan School of Dance in Houston for about eight years total, during which she also served as guest teacher at the Western Ballet summer program in Mountain View, CA. She left briefly to teach at San Jose Ballet School, but returned to Houston and continued her post at Artisan School of Dance for her final 5.5 years.

Faculty Friday | Meet Ballet Faculty member Sara Webb.

SARA WEBB danced as a principal ballet dancer for Houston Ballet for 21 seasons.

Born in Dallas and raised in Las Vegas, Sara attended the Harid Dance Conservatory in Boca Raton, Florida for high school before attending the Houston Ballet Academy. She started dancing professionally with Houston Ballet in 1997 and retired in 2018. During her career, she performed leading roles in many classical ballets, including Swan Lake, Cinderella, Sleeping Beauty, The Nutcracker, Peter Pan, Giselle, Romeo and Juliet, Alice in Wonderland, and Madame Butterfly, as well as many contemporary ballets. She has danced throughout the United States and in many countries, including Japan, Australia, England, Russia, Spain, Canada, Germany, China, and Panama. She has taught ballet at the University of Utah, Brigham Young University, and the University of Houston, as well as at local ballet schools throughout Houston.

Sara is married to Ryan Bardo, and they have five children.

Vitacca Ballet School Woodlands Adult Ballet Class is designed for the beginning/intermediate adult seeking the enjoyment and exercise of a traditional ballet class (barre work, stretch/strengthen center practice, and across-the-floor combinations). Modifications are made throughout the class for varied skill levels and abilities. Wednesdays 9:45–11:00 am, Classes begin 8/16/23.

THURSDAY | Join us for an Assessment Class for 2023/24 Training and Performance programs before Fall classes begin. Vitacca Vocational School for Dance Pre-Professional Training Programs are for advanced dancers focused on classical & contemporary training. Dancers ages 8-18 may audition through an onsite class on August 10th at 10am (Houston location), as well as a Zoom option.
