Congrats to Payton Russell ’18 who is performing the lead role of Christopher Boone in Texas State’s presentation of The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time, based on the novel by Mark Haddon, adapted by Simon Stephens.

Christopher has an extraordinary brain: He is exceptional at mathematics but ill-equipped to interpret everyday life. Finding himself under suspicion for the murder of his neighbor's dog, Christopher is determined to solve the mystery of who really murdered Wellington. As he interviews the neighbors, his detective work takes him on a thrilling journey that upturns his world and that of everyone he meets along the way.

If you happen to be in San Marcus or the surrounding area March 31 -April 3, make plans to go see the performance! Tickets can be purchased online at https://txstatepresents.universitytickets.com/w/?cid=121

World Language Experience After Cooper | The John Cooper School 03/11/2022

World Language Experience After Cooper | The John Cooper School

World language teachers tell their students often how valuable their language skills will be in college and beyond. To offer students the chance to hear the voice of personal experience, the World Language Department invited alumni to submit short videos explaining how their lives have been impacted both personally and professionally by their study of language and culture. Responses came from alumni in a wide range of careers, including medicine, international business, marketing, law, engineering, music, and some from more recent graduates still in college or graduate school. Universally, they spoke of the amazing opportunities and benefits that have come to them as a result of the language and culture studies they began at Cooper, and they encouraged current students to pursue their own language studies throughout their education at Cooper and beyond.

Spanish teacher Shannon Hill says: “I had the privilege of hosting an assembly to share this first set of videos with students in grades 9-11, and two of the featured alumnae (Samantha Nadolny ’05 and Julianna Banks ’18) joined the assembly via zoom to answer audience questions. I am so proud of every one of the alumni in these videos, and I am incredibly touched that so many of them took the time to pass on their experiences to our current students. The response from both students and faculty to the videos and to the live commentary from Samantha and Julianna has been tremendous.”

We’d like to thank the following alumni for sharing their insights with us:
Brian McIntosh ‘03
Julianna Banks ‘18
Annie Hsiao ‘09
Gisele Moran ‘11
Caite Beck ‘11
Iyza Baig ‘11
Samantha-Anne Nadolny ‘05

Coming soon: two more videos featuring more alumni experiences with second language skills!
