We had a wonderful day at the Woodlands Landscaping Solutions Event on Saturday, 9/24. Our students educated many people about how we can work together to improve the quality of our local water. They did a demonstration to show how lawn fertilizer, w**d killer, pesticide, and dog waste end up seeping into our underground aquifers. When it rains, they mix together in our local waterways. Most of this polluted water then ends up in Galveston Bay. It was messy, but very educational and lots of fun!
Today in yoga, the students practiced a 5 senses meditation to ground their bodies in the present moment. They also learned about Ahimsa, a practice of kindness or non-harm toward ourselves and others. They did several rounds of Hugging Breath.
Tree pose served at the focus of their physical practice. The students played a few games with Tree Pose, which encouraged connection, kindness, focus/balance, and fun!

Grade 3 led today's community meeting. We learned about Walkingstick insects and the layers of soil. View our "Community Meeting Gr 3" video using the following link https://www.facebook.com/dsi.org/videos/611022347263461 to learn more about the inquiry-based learning process and how children are encouraged to make sense of what they are seeing based upon what they think or may already know.
We are so excited to be back at school! We've missed you all so much! Lots of new friends were made today. It's going to be such a great year :)
In our Engineering Design Camp this week, our campers have learned to build robots, use code to program them, and design rockets that fly high up into the sky! We are so impressed with their creativity, collaboration, and problem solving skills. They are an amazing group of kids, and we are so thankful for the opportunity to get to know them.
We had an exciting week at Science Camp! First, we met with Mr. John Carey, our snake expert from Jesse Jones Park. Next, we met with Ms. Lisa from The Woodlands Honey Company. Finally, we met with Ms. Teri MacArthur from The Woodlands Township Environmental Services Education Dept. We learned how to identify venomous and non-venomous snakes, bees are very intelligent (and lots more!), and we learned about local animals and their visual and auditory adaptations.
Tune in next week for more fun in our Design Engineering Camp!
Lego Stories Camp was a huge success! The students used the creativity generated with Lego building to come up with some absolutely amazing stories! Luckily, this camp was before the TX heat set in so we were also able to enjoy some outdoor play time.
We had such an amazing day yesterday with our International Day celebration! Thank you to all of our families for helping to make it possible, and so much fun! It was nice to see so many of the students feeling adventurous as they learned, played games, and sampled food from around the world.
We had an amazing celebration on Friday as students presented their research projects and reflected upon how they have grown as learners and friends. We are so proud of the huge amount of effort each of our students demonstrated every day, and how much they have accomplished this year!
Happy Earth Day! Today we went to Interfaith's Veggie Village to harvest vegetables and plant seeds for the future. We were thankful for the opportunity to volunteer in such an amazing place.

Yesterday in grade 2, we read The Dot by Peter H. Reynolds. We discussed the importance of having the courage to get started and learn or try something new, even if we feel nervous about it at first. Then, we painted our own dots. One student made a mistake and wanted to start over. Then, he decided to turn his mistake into a new idea that he loved even more! These are some of the most important lessons of all. We're growing our toolbox for life.
Today we celebrated Veteran's Day by packing boxes with posters, cards and candy to send to our troops overseas. We learned what patriotism means, and took action to show it!
Join us tonight, Wed. 11/17, at Market Street Green 7-9pm to celebrate our local art, featuring Acrobatica. Ms. Jenessa and our students will be recognized by The Woodlands Arts Council!
