Dr. King famously stated that the goal of true education is "intelligence plus character," which equips people with the ability to not only gain knowledge but also to use it for worthy, moral objectives and service to others.
This year we received the largest number of applications: 43 from 6 schools. Students dreaming to be pilots, nurses, doctors, lawyers and politicians.
Donations will aid us to grant scholarships to these future leaders. We also have tickets available for the breakfast if you’re interested in meeting these students

I am currently serving as the Assistant Superintendent Secretary at Sumter County School District, where I provide high-level administrative and operational support.

Previously at Wildwood Middle High School, I contributed to data entry and database management processes, leveraging strong analytical skills to enhance accuracy and efficiency. Awarded “Employee of the Year” Wildwood Middle High School 2025 school year.

I bring a proven record of operational excellence through prior roles as a paraprofessional and student clerk, which strengthened my skills in communication, collaboration, and problem-solving. Alongside professional experience, I am pursuing a Bachelor of Business at Western Governors University, expanding my knowledge to further support organizational growth and effectiveness.

Update from Amanda Lesly Miranda, Wildwood Middle High School, 2024 Awardee:

What impact has receiving this scholarship meant to you?
Receiving the scholarship meant that I was able to pursue additional goals I would not have had the funding to, such as completing my first year abroad! Thanks to the FSU First Year Abroad program, with the money from the MLK scholarship, I spent nine months living in London, studying abroad in a different country, and travelling across Europe.

What achievements or positive experiences have happened during your first year at college?
Living in London gave me a different perspective on life and gave me the opportunity to meet some incredible people and have amazing experiences! I was able to go to Oktoberfest with my flatmates, attend over twenty musicals and performances, not to mention meet some cool actors such as Tom Hiddleston, Ewan McGregor, and Jason Mamoa, to name a few.

What plans do you have for the remainder of your college life?
I am getting a dual degree in Public Relations and Criminal Justice Operations, and while I continue my studies, I have been working the FSU Seminole Boosters team as a Hospitality Supervisor for our football games!
