My 8th-grade Physical Science students put their isotope knowledge to the test with our M&M Isotopes Lab! ๐งช๐ฌ
So, what exactly is an isotope? ๐ค Isotopes are atoms of the same element that have the same number of protons but a different number of neutrons. That means theyโre still the same elementโthey just have different masses! โ๏ธ
Using M&Ms as our โatoms,โ students modeled different isotopes and explored how scientists use the abundance of each isotope to determine an elementโs average atomic mass. And, of course, science is always a little more fun when your lab materials are edible! ๐๐ซ
