Get Ready Preparedness Event

A big thank you to Mid Columbia Fire Rescue for hosting such an informative and valuable event. Families had the opportunity to learn important preparedness tips and how to be ready in case of a fire or other emergencies.

Join the Wasco County Forest Collaborative, Oregon State University, and local wildfire partners for a film screening and discussion exploring OSU fire history research using tree rings on the east side of Mt. Hood. The evening will feature a film by an OSU graduate student filmmaker, followed by a panel discussion with the filmmaker, lead researcher, and local experts.

You’ll also have a chance to connect with local partners and resources for preparing your home and property for wildfire, evacuation and emergency planning, smoke preparedness, and more.

This free, family-friendly event includes a free preparedness item and lunch for all guests, while supplies last. Meet Sparky the fire dog, watch exciting rescue and safety demonstrations and even try your hand at operating a real fire hose!

Sometimes a struggling garden can lead to something much bigger.

When Hilary moved to Tygh Valley, she quickly discovered that gardening in Wasco County was very different from Portland. Looking for answers led her to Master Gardeners, and eventually to a leadership role helping gardeners throughout the community.

Today, Hilary is putting that experience to work as as Wasco County’s Master Gardener and Community Horticulture Coordinator, connecting people with gardening knowledge, schools, community organizations, and wildfire-resilient practices. Her story shows how learning, volunteering, and a love of gardening can grow into a meaningful way to serve the community.
