It’s always rewarding to see a student build confidence and improve with each session. We focus on safe, deliberate practice while gradually introducing more advanced skills.

🎯 Private Training: Building Confidence & Skills

Art and I had a student reach out to us for a private session focused on getting back to the basics and sharpening his skills. Today, we worked on:

🔹 Cleaning and maintaining his pistol and rifle
🔹 Proper firearm maintenance
🔹 Zeroing his red dot
🔹 Intermediate target shooting

He started the session feeling a little nervous, but with encouragement and instruction along the way, he quickly gained confidence and did very well! 💪🎯

We’re looking forward to continuing his training and helping him progress into more advanced techniques.

Congratulations to my student on passing the Texas License to Carry (LTC) shooting qualification on his very first attempt! 👏

Already a licensed carrier in another state, he recently relocated to Texas and wanted to continue exercising his Second Amendment rights by obtaining his Texas License to Carry. After reviewing the Texas requirements and demonstrating safe firearm handling and marksmanship, he successfully passed the shooting qualification on his first try.

Range Day = Progress Day! 🎯

Spent some time on the range today, and it's always rewarding to see improvement through consistent practice.

🎯 Target 1 – 25 yards: Every round landed between the 9-ring and the X-ring, which is a noticeable improvement from my last session. Consistency is paying off!

🎯 Target 2 – 15 yards: My shot grouping continues to tighten up at this distance. Small improvements each session add up.

🎯 Target 3 – 10-yard headshots: Accuracy under a smaller target area is always a great way to challenge yourself and build confidence.

🎯 Target 4 – Skills & Precision Drill: I started by shooting the corresponding number of rounds into each numbered box, then finished the last 20 rounds between the #1 and #2 boxes. I really enjoy this target—especially the triangles. Their smaller size forces me to slow down, focus on my fundamentals, and really work on my grouping.

Overall, I'd say not too bad, especially considering my wrist and hand were giving me some trouble today. Some days aren't perfect, but showing up, working through the challenge, and continuing to improve is what matters.

Congratulations, Victoria! 🎉🎯

Today, Victoria successfully passed her Texas License to Carry (LTC) written test and shooting qualification on her very first attempt with her highest score yet from all of our training sessions!

Before the qualification, she admitted she was feeling a little nervous and apprehensive. That's completely normal. But I reminded her to trust her training, slow down, and apply the fundamentals we had worked on during her private lessons.
She did exactly that.

By focusing on proper grip, sight alignment, smooth trigger control, breathing, and staying calm under timed conditions, she delivered an outstanding performance. I had complete confidence in her because I had seen the work she put in—and today, she proved to herself what she was capable of.

This is why I love teaching.

Watching a student grow in confidence, overcome self-doubt, and leave class smiling is one of the most rewarding parts of being a fi****ms instructor. It's never just about passing a qualification—it's about building safe, responsible, and confident gun owners.

Range Day = Progress, Not Perfection! 🎯

Every trip to the range is an opportunity to sharpen our skills, identify areas for improvement, and build confidence.

Here's what we focused on during this training session:

🎯 Target #1 – Warm-Up (10 Yards):
We started with a warm-up at 10 yards. My shots are in the center of the target, while Art's are the head shots. Keep in mind—he shoots much faster than I do! He also suggested I fire a magazine of my duty ammunition to get used to the increased recoil. Let's just say... he was absolutely right! It definitely has a lot more kick than practice ammo, and it's a great reminder that you should regularly train with the ammunition you actually carry.

🎯 Target #2 – 25 Yards:
This was a good challenge. I was happy to consistently make hits on the target from 25 yards, but I also know I need more practice at this distance. The only way to improve is to keep putting in the work.

🎯 Target #3 – Accuracy Drill (10 Yards):
This target was all about precision. Compared to the last time I shot this drill, I'm seeing noticeable improvement, and that's exactly why we train consistently. Small improvements over time lead to greater confidence and better performance.

No matter your experience level, there's always something to learn and refine. We don't train to be perfect—we train to become safer, more confident, and more proficient every time we step onto the range.

🚫 Texas 30.06: Know Before You Carry

Carrying a handgun comes with both rights and responsibilities. One of the most important laws every Texas License to Carry (LTC) holder should understand is Texas Penal Code 30.06.

A properly posted 30.06 sign provides legal notice that licensed concealed carry is prohibited on that property. Ignoring the sign can result in criminal penalties—even if you have a valid Texas LTC.

As I teach all of my Texas LTC students, understanding where you can and cannot legally carry is just as important as learning how to safely handle your firearm. Responsible gun owners stay informed, recognize the signs, and respect private property rights.

Remember:
✅ Look for 30.06 signs at entrances.
✅ Read the sign carefully—it must meet specific legal requirements.
✅ If a valid 30.06 sign is posted, do not enter with your concealed handgun.
✅ When in doubt, ask or secure your firearm before entering.

Knowledge is part of responsible carry. Stay educated, stay prepared, and stay within the law.

🔹 Firearm Tip of the Day: Understanding Texas Penal Code 30.05 🔹

One of the topics I teach every Texas License to Carry (LTC) student is how to recognize and understand Texas firearm signage. Knowing the law is just as important as knowing how to safely handle your firearm.

A 30.05 sign is a legal notice that informs individuals they are not permitted to carry a firearm onto the property. In Texas, effective notice may be given by:

✔️ A posted sign
✔️ A card or written document
✔️ Verbal communication from the property owner or someone with authority

If you are carrying a firearm and receive effective notice under Texas Penal Code 30.05, you must leave the property or secure your firearm elsewhere. Failing to do so could result in criminal trespass charges.

As a responsible gun owner, it's important to recognize these signs before entering private property. Understanding where you can and cannot legally carry helps protect both your rights and your responsibilities.

This is one of the many legal topics I cover with all of my Texas LTC students because carrying responsibly begins with understanding the law.
