In case you didn’t get the email last week, below is an email I sent to all families. Please know this was not an easy decision and I will miss our Morningside students like crazy. It was so hard to leave them. I just am excited I get to see them again when they move up to Griffin. Until then I wish everyone the best!

After 20 years of teaching at Morningside Elementary, it is with a mix of joy and sadness that I write this farewell letter. Beginning October 30th, I will be joining the coaching staff at Griffin Middle School here in The Colony. This is not how I wanted to leave Morningside after 20 years, but I received a call a few weeks ago with an incredible opportunity to coach and teach Outdoor Trails at Griffin. The process was fast, and they wanted me over there right away. It has always been a dream of mine to coach secondary one day. I wanted to wait until my daughter was older, because I knew I would have more responsibility and not be home as much. I absolutely LOVE my PE job at Morningside, so this was such a hard decision.

It has been an absolute privilege to be your PE teacher, and I will cherish the memories we have shared. I want to express my deepest gratitude to each of you. You have truly blessed my life in so many ways. The relationships we have built and the laughs we have shared will hold a special place in my heart. You have not only been my students, but also my daily source of motivation and laughter. I always talk about you as “My Kids.” That’s just it…you are my kids. I worry about you every day and every night. That will not stop. I am going to check in on you all often.

This new chapter in my career presents an exciting opportunity for me to continue to inspire students to find a love for sports, stay healthy, work hard, and follow their dreams. I am eager to embark on this journey, guiding and inspiring a new generation of students. While I am filled with anticipation for what lies ahead, leaving behind the Morningside community is so bittersweet.

My job has been posted and I am confident that our new Principal, Ms. Richardson, will hire someone ready to jump in and continue to inspire children to be healthy and active.

I fell in love with this community during these past 20 years and I am so excited and blessed I get to stay in it and continue my relationships with students and families. This is not goodbye, as I will see many of you out in the community and when you move up to middle school. I will just have a different role in your life now.
I am only an email away and I look forward to seeing everyone at Griffin.

I will miss you!!

Love,
Coach Terry

This week we kicked off our 21 Day Healthy Snack Challenge by learning about foods that are healthy for us.

3rd-5th- learned about the My Plate and what types of foods fit into each food group. We discussed what was healthy from those food groups and what was not healthy. They played a game called “Healthy Island” they had to be the first team to collect one food item from each food group and put on their plate (Hula Hoop).

K-2nd- talked about “Go” foods and “Whoa” foods. Ask your kiddos what a GO food is and what a WHOA food is. They played “Healthy Island”, but they had a certain amount of time to collect as many GO foods as they could.
