Join the City of Frisco, the Frisco Garden Club and Frisco VFW Post 8273 for a Memorial Day Observance on Monday, May 29 at Frisco Commons (in front of the Veterans Memorial). The event features a traditional flag and wreath-laying ceremony, patriotic music from the Frisco Chorale and the Frisco Community Band, and participation from local scouts. The Frisco Garden Club and the local VFW post have been coordinating Memorial Day services in Frisco since 1994.

In May 1655, Bartolomeo Cristofori, the inventor of the piano, was born in Padua, Italy.

“I can't remember myself as having particular talent for music before the age of ten. My parents were not particularly musical; and since I was the oldest child, I had no older brother or sister to introduce me to music. We didn't even have a piano in our house.
Then one day, out of the blue, an old upright piano arrived.... I was ten years old that day when my life changed. I fell in love with the piano, and it loved me back. We've been happily married ever since.”

Our composer of the month for December is Franz Peter Schubert (1797-1828). He was born on January 31, 1797, in Vienna. His father was a schoolteacher, and his mother was a cook. By the age of 10 he could play the piano, organ, violin, and viola and was accepted into the Imperial Court Chapel in Vienna, all his education, board, and lodging paid for.
