WHICH COUNCILS AM I ELIGIBLE TO VOTE FOR?

You are eligible to vote for your district’s Community Education Council if you have a child attending Pre-K through 8th grade in a DOE school.

You are eligible to vote for your borough’s representative on the Citywide Council on High Schools (CCHS) if you have a child in a DOE high school in that borough.

You are eligible to vote for the Citywide Council on Special Education (CCSE) if your child has an Individualized Education Program (IEP) and attends a DOE school.

You are eligible to vote for the Citywide Council for English Language Learners (CCELL) if your child is an English Language Learner and attends a DOE school.

CAN I VOTE FOR MULTIPLE COUNCILS OR DO I NEED TO CHOOSE ONLY ONE?
You can vote for as many councils as you are eligible for.

HOW DO I KNOW WHICH COUNCILS I AM ELIGIBLE TO VOTE FOR?
The voting system pulls information from your NYC Schools Account and will present you with the councils you are eligible to vote for.

CAN BOTH MY SPOUSE AND I VOTE?
Only one NYC Schools Account can be used to access and vote on a ballot. After the votes have been submitted on any ballot, that ballot is closed and cannot be accessed by anyone. For each ballot, either you or your spouse, but not both, can vote.

HOW MANY CANDIDATES CAN I VOTE FOR?
You may select up to 3 candidates per council. All votes for any one council must be cast at the same time. After you submit your vote, that ballot will be closed.

IF I AM A CANDIDATE, CAN I VOTE FOR MYSELF?
Yes.

WHEN AND WHERE CAN I VOTE?
Visit schools.nyc.gov/Elections2021 to cast your vote between May 1 and May 11, 2021. You can vote on a computer, laptop, tablet or smartphone. If you need assistance, email [email protected] or call 311.

HOW CAN I GET TO KNOW THE CANDIDATES?
Visit schools.nyc.gov/Elections2021 to view statements provided by the candidates.

Meet the candidates by attending the virtual Candidate Forums for each of the Education Councils you will be voting in. Candidate Forums are held between March 15 and April 30. Visit schools.nyc.gov/Elections2021 for the schedule.

WHAT IF I CANNOT ATTEND THE CANDIDATE FORUM?
Find recordings of the Candidate Forums at schools.nyc.gov/Elections2021.

HOW DO I VOTE?
Visit schools.nyc.gov/elections2021 and select “VOTE.” You will be asked to log in to your NYC Schools Account. In order to vote, you must have at least one child attending a DOE school linked to your NYC Schools Account. We recommend that you link all your children attending DOE schools to your NYC Schools Account in order to maximize your voting opportunities.

HOW DO I CREATE A NYC SCHOOLS ACCOUNT?
If you do not have an account, set one up as soon as possible by visiting http://mystudent.nyc or contacting your parent coordinator.

NYC Schools Account is a one-stop shop for all your children’s school information and is available in all 9 languages covered by the NYC DOE. You can select the language you wish to use by clicking the down arrow on the right side of the screen.

HOW CAN I VOTE IF I DO NOT HAVE ONLINE ACCESS?
You can ask your principal or parent coordinator for help. Assistance will also be available at multiple locations throughout the five boroughs. Email [email protected] or call 311 for the nearest location.
