We were so happy to welcome students back to Manida St. today! During orientation today students moved through their new schedules to get acquainted with the teachers & expectations for the year. Look at those smiles! We’re looking forward to the first day of school tomorrow. 📚🍎📓

Today our faculty & staff completed a week of professional development with a retreat day at the Jesuits East Province Center. We spent the morning in prayer & reflection, asking God for the graces we desire this school year. We concluded our day with a special lunch together & were very happy to celebrate the birthday of Ms. Ninfa Perez, P’20, ‘24! 🙏🎂

Today is the Feast of St. Ignatius, who told his companions to “go out & set the world on fire.” Our students just returned from three weeks of our Summer Leadership Program in Lake Placid. The theme for camp this year was “un fuego que enciende otros fuegos,” or a fire that kindles other fires. We pray that with the example of St. Ignatius, our community inspires all to shine brightly! Happy Feast Day! 🔥🙏

Today, we’re sharing a message from Luis Páez ’05, an SIS graduate who went on to Xavier High School and DePauw University, later returning to serve our community as Advancement Associate and Director of Graduate Support.

Luis reflects on the experiences that shaped him at SIS and shares an important message for our alumni community: stay connected. Whether it has been years since you’ve walked through the doors on Manida Street or you’ve stayed closely involved, SIS is still home.

This week, as part of our campaign, we’re celebrating the educators who have served Saint Ignatius School over the past three decades. At SIS, faculty and staff do so much more than teach; they build relationships, create opportunities, and walk alongside students through some of the most formative years of their lives. Long after they leave the classroom, their impact continues to be felt across our community.

Today, we’re proud to feature Alicia Ludlow, who worked at SIS from 2010-2020. She was better known to students as Ms. LaClair. During her ten years at SIS, Alicia taught sixth grade ELA and seventh grade science, and served as assistant principal, helping guide the school and supporting students and families in even deeper ways. Her message to students and alumni is a reminder of what makes SIS so special:

“There are so many people who love you, pray for you, and think about you all the time.”

For 30 Days for 30 Years, we’re highlighting the alumni who continue to shape SIS and its 30 year legacy, including Katherine Villalta ’20.

After graduating from SIS, Katherine attended Loyola School and is now a sophomore at Boston College studying political science and applied psychology. On campus, she is involved with AMDG, a service immersion program rooted in the Jesuit tradition, serves on the executive board of El Centro, a student organization celebrating Central American culture, and is a member of the AHANA Pre-Law Association for students of color.

One of Katherine’s favorite SIS memories is participating in an eighth grade mock trial based on Of Mice and Men. The experience gave her an inside look at the courtroom and helped spark an interest in law and the judicial system that she continues to pursue today.

Reflecting on her journey, Katherine shared that SIS helped shape who she is, not only through academics but through the strength of its community. Even while away at college, she knows she can always turn to the SIS community for support and encouragement.

“SIS is definitely a place I can call home.”
