I am an adjunct professor of English with 12 years of experience at the college level and 10 years at the middle and high school level, including the IB diploma program (Literature, Language and Literature, and TOK). I have taught in the Bronx, Westchester, and Italy in private and public schools. Working closely with the State Ed team in Albany as they created the new exams, I know what it takes

to do well. I was on the executive board of the newspaper at Fordham University, where I received my MA and BA in English. I have tutored students since high school, and know how to move students quickly and efficiently to maximize our time and minimize the expense. I specialize in:

I prefer to work digitally with google docs, email, text, and phone since it is quick and streamlined, but this is best in combination with at least one face-to-face meeting. I have special in-person rates for my neighbors here in Woodlawn! Editing via google docs: $60/hour. (Google docs timestamps and shows my corrections, making it easy to see how long I have spent). This includes free calls, text messaging, and emails as needed. In-person WOODLAWN ONLY friendly neighbor rate: $60 / hour. Woodlawn Packages: 5 hours for $275. 10 hours for $500. Packages are non-refundable. Westchester Rate: $75 / hour in person. Westchester Packages: 5 hours for $325 and 10 hours for $600. Packages are nonrefundable. Grammar tip: If you can count the items, use fewer. Otherwise, use less. For example, I have fewer places to go these days in quarantine. I have less free time. Do you need editing help for college or your business? Do your children need help with school in google classroom, remote learning, or English? Please contact me. Our friends and family rates are extended through June 1! (About half price). I bill by the minute, and a 6 page paper typically takes about 15-20 minutes for me to edit.

Grammar tip: When saying something like “Come visit Kate and me” remove the person’s name to check the grammar. It’s “Come visit me” not “Come visit I.” I see this all the time.

Editing tip: Don’t edit while writing. Let your thoughts flow freely. You can always “sift for gems” later and use those to rewrite. When you are ready, give it some space and you can edit with an editor’s mind. Trying to edit while writing causes writer’s block and blank pages. Want some editing or writing help? Writing tip: take a break. Set a goal and work as long as possible. When you hit a wall, sketch a plan for what you want to work out when you come back. Ideally you will have space of a day or more. In a tough all-nighter scenario, go to bed. A few hours of sleep will let the brain process and rest. You can get it done much better and more efficiently after the rest. Your brain continues to process when you take a shower, call a friend or take a walk. We can talk more about time management in our sessions.

Writing tip: write for a safe audience first. Get those thoughts out. Pretend you are writing to your friend or a cat or a parent - whoever makes you feel comfortable. You can edit later for your real audience.

Writing tip: always outline. Any writing you do without an outline is really just freewriting, which can help you generate ideas. Once you know what you want to say, stop and make a plan. This will save you time and avoid writer’s block.
