Happy Read Across America Day 📚

Today I was given the opportunity to jump back into the classroom as none other than PETE the CAT.

Being back in the classroom for this fun read aloud truly made my day and the energy kippsters gave warmed my heart!

Students will give back the energy you give them, remember that! ❤️

Keep it simple!

✨1. Think of the student’s goal based on data or noticings within the classroom.
Here the student is working on using evidence from both the text and the pictures/ illustrations to support her thinking.

✨2.Place the heavy lifting on the students.
Ask open ended questions. Stay away from ultimatum questions. (Too leading)
Our students can and should be challenged.

✨3. At the end of your conferencing stamp on the strategy or skill they are working on. (“Yes, remember good readers use the text AND the pictures to comprehend what’s going on!”)

✨4. Use movement and song to help make the strategy or skill being taught sticky for students.

Reflection time:
Something I could’ve possibly done differently….

Instead of stamping the strategy for her, I could’ve asked her what “what do good reader do?” Allowed for her to respond and affirm her response assuring she included that good readers use both text evidence and pictures/ illustrations to understand what is happening in the text.

Have a blessed and beautiful Thursday fam!💛
