On Saturday, UIL Academics hosted their regional competition in College Station. TCHS Journalism earned second place overall team and will be advancing to UIL State in May at UT Austin. Senior Sarah Vasquez placed second and senior Destiny Smith placed fourth in Feature Writing. Senior Julia Selvera placed second in News Writing. They were accompanied by junior Camila Aguilera who competed in Headline Writing. Their coach is Jennifer Kunard.

Over the weekend, the TCHS Journalism Team competed at Friendswood High School in UIL Academics District and swept their categories. They brought home the top award for District Journalism Team Champion. Every student on the team earned points by placing in their events.

The results were as follows:
Senior Sarah Vasquez placed 3rd in Feature Writing, 3rd in Editorial Writing, 1st in Copy Editing and 6th in News Writing
Senior Julia Selvera placed 4th in Feature Writing, 1st in Editorial Writing and 1st in News Writing
Senior Destiny Smith placed 6th in Headline Writing, 1st in Feature Writing and 2nd in News Writing
Junior Camila Aguilera placed 2nd in Headline Writing
Sophomore Alejandro Cantu placed 4th in Headline Writing, 4th in Editorial Writing and 6th in Copy Editing

The team will travel to College Station on April 25th to compete in the Regional Competition. Their coach is Jennifer Kunard.
