✝️MARTHA BELL✝️
May 27, 1940 - November 26, 2025

St. James Day School and the Bell family are announcing the passing of beloved 3rd grade teacher Martha Be (Gips) Bell on November 25, 2025.

A Memorial Service will be held on December 6, 2025, at Bates Cooper Sloan Chapel, 2805 South Jefferson Avenue, Mount Pleasant, Texas 75455. Visitation will be at 1:00 pm, and Services will commence at 2:00 p.m., with Burial to follow at Masonic Cemetery, Mount Pleasant, Texas.

Martha Bell and husband, Pat made their home in Texarkana, Texas, for over 40 wonderful years.💙 Martha shared her warmth, patience, and passion for learning as an adored 3rd-grade teacher at St. James Day School in Texarkana. In addition to her devotion to education and after perfecting her craft, students received a delicately painted and hand-carved wooden Santa Claus figure that profiled their hobbies and personalities, lovingly crafted by Martha herself. These small treasures, gifted from her heart, became lifelong keepsakes for generations of children who passed through her classroom.💙 Martha, a graduate of Rice University, is credited with a major contribution to the academic excellence attributed to St. James Day School. She will always be remembered by those hundreds of students who passed through her classroom.

ELEANOR and FRANCES SCHROEDER
St. James Spotlight - Summer 2025
The Schroeder twins, daughters of the Hon. Trey and Megan Schroeder, are graduates of the SJDS class of 2012. After spending nine years of their childhood days at St. James Day School, they were ready to fly!

Read posts below to know their journey from Texarkana to California, to Washington D.C., to New York and Boston. Both girls continue to exemplify the value of a St. James educational foundation. FRANCES
After graduating from St. James Day School, Frances also graduated in 2018 in the top ten in her class at Texas High School. In 2023, Frances received her M.A. in Public Policy from Stanford University, and holds a B.S. from Stanford in Symbolic Systems, a program that combines computer science, psychology, linguistics, and philosophy, with a concentration in Human-Computer Interaction.

At Stanford, Frances was a research assistant in the Stanford Internet Observatory, and a Defense Innovation Scholar at the Gordian Knot Center for National Security Innovation. Frances previously interned with the State Department’s Bureau for Cyberspace and Digital Policy and the Atlantic Council’s Cyber Statecraft Initiative.

During her time on Capitol Hill, Frances worked on a wide range of cybersecurity topics, including software liability, cyber implications for national security, and data privacy. Frances worked for Sen. Jon Ossoff (D-GA) on national security issues. Currently, she works as a Senior Policy Analyst for Venable LLP, a top international law firm, on technology issues.

ELEANOR
Eleanor will be a first year law student at HARVARD LAW SCHOOL this fall. But she has been very busy on her way there. After graduating from St. James, she attended Texas High School where she graduated in the top ten of the Class of 2018. Following high school Eleanor attended Stanford University where she received a BA with Honors in Political Science in 2022.

She has long had her sights set on attending law school, and during college was a founding editor of the Stanford Undergraduate Law Review and volunteered in a local court helping litigants. Additionally, she worked at Stanford Law School in the Gould Negotiation and Mediation program and attended the Stanford in Florence Overseas Program. After graduation, Eleanor moved to New York City where she worked as a paralegal for two years at Proskauer LLP, a large national law firm. Last fall, Eleanor applied to law school and will be attending Harvard Law School this fall, joining the Class of 2028.
