At MDS, we believe stories shape little hearts. Today we honor someone who spent her life making sure every child has a story to hold.

Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library has placed millions of books into the hands of children around the world, reminding us that reading is not just a skill, it is a doorway to wonder, confidence, knowledge and connection.

Her legacy shows that us each that children are worth investing in. It inspires us to nurture young readers, dreamers, helpers, and world-changers one precious child at a time.

Thank you, Dolly, for helping children discover the magic of books.

Behind every successful school year there is a teacher working tirelessly to make the classroom a safe, loving space.

As the students get ready to join us here at MDS, our amazing teachers are busy transforming rooms into welcoming spaces, where children can flourish. From decorating bulletin boards to organizing school supplies to planning engaging lessons, they are putting their hearts into every detail.

We cannot wait to see our classrooms filled with smiling faces and excited voices.

📸. Throwback Thursday! 📸

It’s hard to believe that my first year as Director here at MDS was in 2021. Time has truly flown by and somehow it has already been 5 years! Looking back through old photos brought back so many memories from that first year here and reminded me how special this place is.

Today, I am sharing a few of my favorite memories from my first year here. All these moments mean a lot to me, I know many of you have memories that go back much further. After all, MDS was founded in 1983 and there are countless stories, friendships, and family connections that have helped shape who we are today.

I’d love to hear from you! Share some of your favorite memories and post a photo or two if you have them. Whether your memories are from recent years or decades ago, let’s walk down memory lane together.

During the summer it may seem quiet here at MDS but make not mistake, our teachers are busy preparing bright, welcoming classrooms for our sweet friends’ return- organizing materials, planning lessons, and creating spaces where every child can learn, play, and feel loved.

While we get things ready here at school, there are simple ways families can help little learners get ready at home:

✨ Read Together Daily — Even a few minutes builds listening skills and early literacy.
✨ Practice Independence — Putting on shoes, cleaning up toys, and following simple directions help children feel confident in the classroom.
✨ Build Fine Motor Strength — Play‑dough, crayons, stringing beads, and sidewalk chalk prepare little hands for writing.
✨ Use Math in Everyday Moments — Count steps, sort snacks, or talk about shapes during play.
✨ Grow Social Skills — Practice taking turns, sharing, and using words to solve small problems.

We miss our students dearly and can’t wait to see their smiling faces again. Until then, every small moment at home helps prepare them for a joyful, confident start to the new school year.
