Although Banned Books Week is next week we have some other celebrations happening and we wanted to make sure everyone was aware of the importance of this week of observation.

Banned Books Week is a time to recognize the freedom that you have to read the material you want.

In 2025, the American Library Association documented hundreds of attempts to censor materials in libraries, schools, and universities, with thousands of individual titles challenged or banned.

Libraries believe that readers should have the opportunity to explore information, stories, and ideas for themselves. Protecting the freedom to read means supporting intellectual freedom and ensuring that a wide range of material and perspectives remain accessible.

Take a look at our current display of frequently banned or challenged books located on the first floor of the library!
