I'm always asked about classroom management and how I handle behaviors.

I look at it this way... when you respect your students and take the time to build relationships, they'll respect you back. My students have a voice in their learning, and I try my best to do anything they ask. The result is a student that wants to come to class and works hard meeting learning goals because they know they have a teacher in their corner. I expect a lot out of them, but they also know I'm their biggest fan and will push them to their fullest potential.

The Terra Alta group has asked me to taking them camping all year. Well, I couldn't make that happen, so we spent their last day grilling out and playing volleyball/ kickball.

So much fun. We are also having a school wide pool party next month that we're looking forward to. Have a great summer!

As our second year comes to an end and we open enrollment for the 26/27 school year, I figured I'd reintroduce myself.

My name is Emily Roy. I am the founder and head teacher at Excel Learning Center. I hold a master's degree in both elementary education and business administration.

I am a lifelong learner with a passion in reading. I love learning and spend my downtime taking courses in other areas of interest. I've spent summer months taking paralegal classes, nutrition classes, and dyslexia courses to name a few.

My goal for the learning center was to create a space where every student feels like they're part of a whole. We reach our goals together. Students to come to school and feel loved, seen, and supported. My favorite moment was hearing a parent say that I didn't just create a school, I've created a family.

I only have 4 spots open for next school year and looking to fill those spots within grades k-4. Message me if this is something you're interested in. Tuition is 100% covered with the Hope Scholarship.

Small groups of 3-4 students allow for targeted instruction, spiraled learning, and enhanced collaboration.

A look at a few groups from today. This morning, we worked on chaining words to build phonemic awareness, decoding, and encoding skills. This afternoon, we worked on multiplication, place value, and change for $1.00.

We started the day painting the melting popsicles we made out of clay last week. During recess, we got out the parachute and had a blast.

The Hope Scholarship and alternative methods of education continue to be a debate. However, I look across my classroom and can't help but be thankful for the opportunities it has made possible for my students.

I love that we don't have to follow a curriculum determined by someone not in the classroom. We can adjust as needed, step away from worksheets, and have students learning in all areas of the classroom.

As I looked around at one point today, I had students engaged on the smartboard, students counting money, kindergarten and first graders adding 3 numbers for additional practice, and another working on a different addition activity. I'm so blessed to be a teacher with this group of kiddos♥️
