This month, we’re diving into all the award categories up for grabs, and we want you to be in the know! 🏆 To be eligible, remember that teams must have at least five members registered for qualifying events.

This week, we’re shining the spotlight on the awards for our Top 10 Teams and 5k participants. Here’s what you need to know:

🏅 Icon Award: Best fundraising teams (Teams #1-5)
🏅 Extra Mile Award: Judged on fundraising, team size, effort, and team spirit ( #6-10)

🏅 Fastest 5k: Top 3 (M/F) in various age categories: Overall; 10 and under; 11-14; 15-19; 20-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70-79; and 80+
🏅100th Runner Award: Honoring the 100th 5k racer to cross the finish line!

Five years ago, our running program was just a small group with big dreams. Now, watching it grow into something so much bigger has been one of my coaching career’s greatest blessings. Seeing the success, medals, and victories is always special—but even more meaningful is watching these young athletes grow in their love for the sport, their dedication to the grind, and their willingness to embrace one of the toughest sports there is. Running builds more than speed and endurance—it builds heart, discipline, and character. Watching that growth year after year is the true reward, and what a blessing it has been to witness. To all the young athletes past, present, and future- Aurora Proud!

Aurora Bears Middle School Track – Preston MS Meet #2 💪🐻🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

Great effort from our Aurora Bears competing in Meet #2 of the season at the Preston MS Meet! This group continues to show growth, determination, and strong team energy across the board.

🔥 Highlights:

Huge number of personal bests (PBs) across nearly every event – athletes are putting in the work and it’s showing!
Multiple Top 10 finishes in both track and field events.
Girls Team placed 4th out of 12 teams – an outstanding team performance!

💪 Top Performances:

*Evie Durst dominated distance events with 1st place in the 800m and 1st place in the 1600m , plus a 3rd place finish in the 400m and 5th in Long Jump.
*Ella Shaffer placed 4th in the 1600m (PB) and 8th in the 800m (PB).
*Ryelle Bachtel earned 5th in the 800m (PB) and 6th in High Jump (PB).
*Cora Miller placed 7th in the 1600m (PB) and 10th in High Jump (PB).
*Alexis Georg broke into the Top 10 in the 200m (9th, PB) and added another Top 10 in Long Jump at 7th.
*Layla Waters – 8th in Discus (PB)
*Raylan Rumer led the boys with strong field finishes: 4th in Shot Put and 5th in Discus (PB).
*Tripp Rumer – 7th in the 1600m
*Lechad “Henry” Bolyard – 9th in Shot Put ( PB) and 10th in Discus (PB)
*Aurora Girls 4x400 Relay – 7th (Ella Shaffer, Cora Miller, Emma Moats, Hillary Shapiro)

Aurora Middle School track athletes kicked off their season at Preston County Meet #1 this past Monday, and we are very proud of how everyone competed in our first meet of the year! Our team has grown in numbers and talent this year and we are looking forward to a great season with 26 athletes!

We had several athletes finish in the Top 10, multiple relay teams place well, and many athletes started the season with personal bests competing amongst 16 teams! It was great to see the hard work from practice already paying off.

Evie Durst – 3rd place 400m (1:09.52), 5th place 1600m (6:13.30), 5th place Long Jump (12' 9.5" PR)
Ryelle Bachtel – 7th place 800m (2:53.15 PR)
Girls 4x400 Relay – 5th place (5:16.47) – Evie Durst, Ella Shaffer, Emma Moats, Ryelle Bachtel

Boys
Raylan Rumer – 3rd place Shot Put (31' 6.25" PR)
Noah Stone – 6th place Long Jump (14' 10" PR)
Tripp Rumer – 7th place 1600m (5:36.44 PR)

We also had many athletes earn personal best times and distances across sprints, distance races, and field events in our first meet of the season.

🐻 Aurora Bears Track & Field – Calling All 6th–8th Graders! 🐻

Track season is almost here, and we want YOU to be part of it!

If you are in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade at Aurora, come join the Aurora Bears Track & Field team! Whether you love to run, jump, or throw — there is a place for everyone on our team.

📅 Season Begins: 3/2/26
📍 Open to all Aurora students in grades 6–8

Track is a great way to stay active, build confidence, make friends, and represent the Bears with pride! No experience necessary — just bring a positive attitude and willingness to work hard.

🏃‍♀️🐻 Aurora Bears Shine at County Championships! 🐻🏃‍♂️

What an amazing day for our Aurora Bears at the County Championship meet! Our girls’ team brought home a back to back year of the County Championship title 🏆 with outstanding performances across the board — including Evie Durst (2nd), Ryelle Bachtel (3rd), Ella Shaffer (4th) and Cora Miller (9th) all placing in the top 10! 💪🔥 Olivia Simmons had a great run finishing 17th rounding out our scoring. Outstanding efforts were also given by Maddi Livingood at 24th and Alexis Georg at 27th!

On the boys’ side, we’re just as proud — with Tripp Rumer 3rd overall and Ashton Shaffer taking 8th place in a strong finish! Rylan Kowalkoski just missing top 10 in 11th with an outstanding finish. Alden Bachtel rounded out our boys in 23rd.

A special shoutout to our three 8th graders — Evie, Ryelle, and Maddi for finishing their middle school cross country careers strong and setting a great example for the younger runners. We’re so proud of your leadership and dedication for 3 great years as part of growing program! 👏🎓

Every single runner gave it their all today, showing heart, teamwork, and grit from start to finish. 🌟

We couldn’t be more proud of this incredible group — both for their results and the way they represent our community. Way to go, Aurora Bears! 🐾❤️🤍💪🐻
