Mark your ๐Ÿ“† for this upcoming hybrid event featuring Indigenous Mapuche educators!

What can Indigenous-led education teach us about resisting cultural erasure?

As pressures on Indigenous rights, public education, and cultural diversity intensify in the U.S. and Chile, Mapuche-run schools and language immersion programs are creating bold alternatives to assimilation. This bilingual event dives into how these efforts are reshaping educationโ€”and what they mean for those working to protect democracy and cultural survival.

The Indigenous Education Leadership Academy wrapped up earlier this month in Spokane, Washington at the National Indian Education Association conference.

Over eight weeks, participants explored leadership strategies grounded in community values and Indigenous traditions.

To culminate the program, each participant presented a proposal to improve education in their communities during the conference and received a certificate from Arizona State University.

This cohort was brought in partnership with the Center for Indian Education at ASU, American Indian Studies, the National Indian Education Association Tufts University.
