Today, we recognize and celebrate Women Veterans Day, honoring the women who have served in the United States Armed Forces and whose contributions have helped shape our nation's military history.

Women have served with distinction throughout every era of our country's history, demonstrating courage, leadership, resilience, and an unwavering commitment to service. Their contributions continue to strengthen our military, communities, and workplaces.

At Sonoran Desert Institute, we are proud to have women veterans among our students, alumni, and employees. Their experiences, perspectives, and dedication enrich our community and reflect the values of service and excellence that we strive to uphold.

These signs reference no fly zones, some of them pertain to temporary flight restrictions (TFRs) for events, others are more constant such as for no fly zones over places such as military bases. A TFR also follows the President wherever he travels. Some of these signs can show up temporarily, some of them are more permanent depending on the location.

Right now with the World Cup underway, TFRs are being placed over match venues for the duration of each game. But just because a sign is still standing doesn't mean the restriction is still active.

From working on fi****ms at just 7 years old to launching a veteran-owned gunsmithing business, SDI Graduate Ivan Melendez turned a lifelong passion into a profession.

While serving active duty in the U.S. Army as a Small Arms/Artillery Repairman (91F), Ivan earned his Associate of Science in Fi****ms Technology degree from SDI, graduating Magna Cum Laude in 2023.

Today, Ivan and his father operate Alien Arms LLC in Levelland, Texas, providing custom gunsmithing, firearm repairs, preventative maintenance, and vintage firearm restoration services.

Congratulations to Ivan on building a successful career in the fi****ms industry and continuing to serve the fi****ms community through craftsmanship and dedication.
