SUN DEVIL GIVING DAY 🔱✨️🫶

¡Hola a todxs! 👋

Today is Sun Devil Giving Day and it is an excellent opportunity to show support to ASU programs.

We are very excited to announce that donations can go directly to the heritage program to support our students.

The heritage program provides so many benefits to our students in and beyond the classroom. For example, every semester we put on a student conference for students to network and share their work on Latinx communities in Phoenix. We also have invited speakers on topics like graduate school, careers, and skill development. We are in the process of launching a bilingual leaders initiative to build students’ skills. This support can help us grow these opportunities!

For this Giving Day, our goal is 1,000! We will use this money for scholarships and other student supports for our heritage students when this goal is reached.

•I really like how it allows us to be flexible with our language so we can experiment and learn at a comfortable pace! It allows us to use what we do know and helps us apply that without feeling forced or artificial. The class feels very natural and fun :]

•I loved that this course was taught towards heritage learners. I was glad that I found out about this class before it was too late. Everything is set up perfectly so that you are learning at a great pace.

•I love how comfortable everyone is in this class! we are all friends and can have such good genuine conversations while learning. I have learned so much in this class it is by far my favorite. I absolutely love our professor too. She is so genuine and you can tell she cares for us. The activities we do are very interactive and I really do learn a lot.

¿De dónde eres?
Soy de Bolivia - Sudamérica, crecí y me eduqué en Cochabamba una pequeña ciudad en Bolivia. Me mudé a los Estados Unidos el año 1999

¿Cómo aprendiste español?
Mi lengua materna es el español, aunque aprendí el Quechua de mi abuela, ella era de origen indígena. Esto me motivo a terminar mi doctorado en español y
estudios culturales.

¿Qué clase(s) enseñas?
Me encanta enseñar clases de Lengua Heredada, enseñé SPA 203, SPA 204, SPA 315 y SPA 316, actualmente estoy enseñando SPA 203 y SPA 416

Pasatiempos favoritos, cualquier cosa adicional que quieras mencionar: Me fascina viajar y aprender lenguas. Viví un año en Sheniang, China enseñando
español. Me gusta mucho ver películas y pasar tiempo con mi familia. Este verano pasado acampamos con mi familia en los parques Nacionales.

"¡Hola! Me llamo Hunter y soy de Queen Creek, Arizona, pero nací en Albuquerque, Nuevo México, donde mi abuelita todavía vive. Cuando era niño, ella me enseñaba palabras y frases en español pero nunca podía tener una conversación, así que cuando empecé mis estudios en ASU, decidí tomar clases de español para aprenderlo y poder conversar con mi abuela en su lengua materna. Este semestre enseño una clase de SPA 204 y me encanta. Cuando no estoy en el salón de clases, me gusta hacer senderismo en las montañas y escribir canciones. ¡Para mí es un verdadero placer ser profesor de español!'
