Today is Memorial Day, a day to remember and honor our fallen patriot warriors, appreciate their sacrifice for our freedom/liberty/independence, and live a life worthy of their sacrifice since the American Revolution...
Today is a reminder for us to carry the load for those who didn’t make it home…
To do that, we should look at the flag that is draped over their coffin before it is folded 13 times and presented to the family on behalf of the President and a grateful nation…
What do those 13 folds mean for our fallen?
-First fold — Symbol of life
-Second fold — Belief in eternal life
-Third fold — Honor and remembrance of heroes who gave their lives
-Fourth fold — Recognition of human weakness and dependence on God
-Fifth fold — Tribute to the United States
-Sixth fold — Where our hearts lie; loyalty and devotion
-Seventh fold — Tribute to the Armed Forces
-Eighth fold — Tribute to those who entered the valley of the shadow of death for freedom
-Ninth fold — Tribute to womanhood and mothers
-Tenth fold — Tribute to fathers
-Eleventh fold — Associated traditionally with Jewish heritage and the Star of David
-Twelfth fold — Associated traditionally with Christian heritage and eternity
-Thirteenth fold — Represents patriotism and the nation itself; when complete, the stars are visible, symbolizing the national motto and vigilance.
Remember that and cherish that next time you pass our flag or pledge your allegiance to our flag and to the Republic for which it stands…
Our Republic and our flag represent the American life and liberty that those men and women died for…

In 1971, Memorial Day officially became a federal holiday observed on the last Monday in May…
At its core, Memorial Day is about remembrance and sacrifice. It’s not for veterans who served and came home — that’s Veterans Day. Memorial Day is for those who gave everything and never got the chance to come back home...
Traditions tied to Memorial Day include:
