There’s something so special about giving children permission to make a mess, get curious, and create without a “right” way to do it. 🍎🎨

Yesterday’s sensory painting started with apples! We chose red, green, and yellow paint to represent the main colors we see in apples, making the activity a little bit of art, a little bit of nature exploration, and a whole lot of sensory fun.

First, we explored with the apples—dipping, stamping, rolling, and discovering the different marks they could make. Then we introduced different tools… and eventually, the tools weren’t even necessary anymore. 😆

Just hands. Fingers. Smears. Textures. Color.

What looks like a very messy painting session is actually so much more:
✨ sensory exploration
✨ fine-motor practice
✨ color recognition
✨ cause-and-effect learning
✨ creativity and self-expression
✨ experimenting with different textures and tools
✨ and the freedom to explore their own ideas

At Our Nest, we don’t always need a finished “product.” Sometimes the process is the whole point. ❤️

And yes… the paint definitely ended up everywhere. That’s part of the fun. 😉

Nutrition is so important for our children’s health and development. Choosing the right foods and diet can play a big role in helping them grow and succeed. As a mom myself, I know we always try to provide the best of the best for our children, but I feel like it is also so important to know that this moment’s best can be different from next moment’s best, and knowing what options we have truly empowers our confidence and comfort of being a parent and not always feel guilty of the things we didn’t or couldn’t do at certain times. ❤️

This month is all about apples! 🍎 Today, we not only sang a song about apples, read a book about how do apples grow, but also practiced counting with apples and learning about numbers!

🥞 From bananas to batter—and so much learning along the way! 🍌✨

Yesterday our little chefs made banana pancake batter completely from scratch! Each child had a special job: cutting, smashing, scooping, pouring, and stirring. 🥣👩‍🍳👨‍🍳

But the best part? They weren’t just learning how to make pancakes—they were learning how to work together. 🤝 Each step was passed along to the next friend, giving everyone a chance to participate, practice patience, take turns, and contribute to the finished creation.

From little hands to big teamwork, this is the kind of learning we love at Our Nest—hands-on, meaningful, and delicious! 💛

And yes… the pancakes tasted even better because we made them ourselves! 🥞😋

Wow, it’s September already! Today, we explored the parts of an apple through hands-on discovery! The kiddos cut open an apple with help, observed the seeds, stem, skin, flesh, and core, then matched what they found to their activity sheet.

Learning is always sweeter when we can touch it, see it, and discover it ourselves! ❤️🔬🍎

Sometimes, the best way to learn about our feelings is to simply see them. 🪞💛

Today, we used a mirror to explore different emotions—happy, silly, mad, sad, surprised, and everything in between! We made faces, copied each other, and talked about when and why we might feel each emotion.

The kids were fascinated watching their own faces change right before their eyes. You could almost see the little lightbulbs going off as they realized, “Oh! This is what my face looks like when I’m feeling ___!” 🥰

A simple mirror turned into a wonderful lesson in emotional awareness, self-expression, and recognizing feelings in ourselves and others.

And of course… everyone wanted a turn to make the silliest face possible. 😂🪞✨

🧩✨ Putting the pieces of ME together!

Today, our little artists became the creators of their very own self-portraits—but with a fun twist!

I cut each child’s photo into pieces, and they had to carefully look at their eyes, nose, mouth, hair, and other features to figure out where each piece belonged. Some kiddos got most of it down independently while others need more help, but once they solved their little face puzzle, they glued it down to create their own unique self-portrait. 💛

A simple activity that brought together observation, problem-solving, fine motor skills, spatial awareness, and a little bit of “Hey, that’s ME!” 😄

We love when art gives children a chance to explore themselves in a whole new way. ✨
