Sometimes you just know. ❤️🐴

I had a feeling Red might have Cushing’s because of that thick, curly, fluffy coat he just wasn’t shedding like he should. i had him tested, and unfortunately, my gut was right.

Today I’m heading out to pick up his medication so we can get him started and hopefully help him feel his best. Another piece of the puzzle in getting this sweet boy healthy again.

And yes, apparently I decided to give you this little farm update while standing outside in the blazing sun when it is hot as freaking hell. 😂🥵 and it was still morning 🤦‍♀️

Rescue is a lot of observing, learning, adjusting, worrying, loving, and doing whatever they need next.

One day at a time, Red. ❤️

Rescue progress, JR

My sweet old man is definitely making progress with his weight, but we still have a long way to go.

It didn’t take JR very long to decide he could trust me. Not so long ago, he would move away when I approached him, run away when I entered the pasture. Now he comes right up to me. 🥹 Those little moments mean everything.

And let me tell you, this guy loves his senior mash three times a day! 😂 He certainly doesn’t miss a meal.

Early next week, I’m going to bust out the equine weight tape and get some actual numbers so we can see just how much progress he’s made.

I cannot wait to watch this beautiful boy fill out. Underneath that skinny little body is a horse absolutely full of s***k, personality, and life. ❤️

One meal, one day, and one little bit of trust at a time. 🐴🌿

Healing Is So Beautiful ❤️🐴

Big Red has been here a little over a month now, and I just love this guy so much.

There is such a gentle, kind spirit about him. Those beautiful, soulful, soft eyes say so much. And now that he knows he is safe, comfortable, cared for, and can trust me, his true personality is really beginning to shine through.

That may be one of the most beautiful parts of rescue, watching them slowly let their guard down and become who they were meant to be. Healing is so beautiful. ❤️

And he’s finding his place in the herd, too. He and Ghost have become buddies, and Max has absolutely taken to him and loves playing with his big red friend. 🥰

Looking at this picture, I can’t help but think how lucky I am that our paths crossed. He may have come here needing a safe place to land, but he is already giving so much back. ❤️

The Why Behind the Work ❤

They showed me how to show up for myself, so now I show up for them. ❤

For anyone who wonders why I do what I do, or for anyone who thinks I’m a little crazy (or a lot 🤣) for this life this is the heart of it.

Before I knew how to truly advocate for my own needs or stay grounded through life’s storms, the horses were already teaching me. They didn't need me to be perfect; they just needed me to be authentic. Through them, I learned about trust, resilience, and the strength it takes to keep moving forward.

So when you see me moving 50 bales of hay at dawn, or spending late nights in the barn with a horse in recovery, or all the things it takes, know that it isn’t just a chore. It’s a labor of love. I am simply returning the favor to the souls who taught me how to heal.

It might look like "grit" from the outside, but from the inside, it’s pure grace.

They Heal the Parts No One Can See ❤️🐴

This one stopped me because I know it’s true, experience! 🙏

Horses have carried me through some of the hardest times of my life, heartbreak, starting over, sobriety, rebuilding, and learning who I am again.

They don’t judge. They don’t need an explanation. They meet you exactly where you are.

They have taught me about trust, boundaries, patience, presence, communication, leadership and authenticity. And somewhere along the way, while I thought I was caring for them, I realized they were helping heal me.

That is a huge part of why Root & Rein exists today.

Sometimes healing doesn’t need a lot of words. Sometimes it looks like a quiet pasture, a horse beside you, and enough space to find yourself again. ❤️

🙏 Prayers for Big Red ❤️🐴

May I please ask for some prayers and good thoughts for my sweet rescue Big Red?

His vet was out today and drew blood to test him for Cushing’s (PPID). Ive had some concerns that made us feel testing was the right next step, and now we wait for the results.

This big guy has already come such a long way since arriving at Root & Rein. He’s gaining weight, learning to trust, and showing me more of his wonderful personality every day. I love him so much. 🙏🥰. He deserves every opportunity to feel his very best. ❤️

We would certainly appreciate a few extra prayers for this big beautiful boy. 🙏🐴❤️

BellaSoul Farm Open House - Come Spend the Day

It’s getting closer, and I’m SO excited to open the gates and welcome our community.

BellaSoul is so many things to me. It’s my home and my farm. It’s a safe place for all the animals to land and live their best lives and a safe space for humans to be themselves. It’s land I’m working hard to protect through conservation, native plantings, pollinator habitat and wildlife stewardship. 🌿🐝🦋

And it’s home to Root & Rein Equine Learning Center, the nonprofit Equine Assisted Learning center I created to share the incredible lessons horses have to teach us with people throughout our community.

On September 26th I get to share ALL of it with you!

I’ll also be offering TWO “Whoa & Safety” EAL Orientation Sessions at 11 AM and 2 PM.

You’ll learn a little about how horses communicate, why we work with them, how to safely interact with them and get a taste of what Equine Assisted Learning is all about.

And while this is going to be a FUN day, there’s another reason this Open House is so important to me.
I need my community. ❤️

Caring for rescue horses, protecting this beautiful land and growing a nonprofit Equine Learning Center takes a tremendous amount of work and resources. I want Root & Rein to be something I can share with and make accessible to our community.

Come learn how you can volunteer, donate, sponsor a session, support the rescue horses, help with projects or simply spread the word. Every little bit truly matters.

JR’s Progress ❤️🐴

July 18 ➡️ Today.

He still has a long way to go, but I can see the difference. ❤️ He’s starting to fill in, his body is changing, and I know he is feeling better.

One of my favorite things is watching JR eat his senior mash. He loves it, and it is really satisfying watching him eat, knowing he’s finally getting the nutrition his body needs. I can’t describe to you how good it feels. ❤️‍🩹


I’m not rushing anything. Taking it one meal, one day, and one little win at a time.
