Please join us in celebrating Edmund "Ned" Maino, a beloved social science teacher at Tehachapi High School, who has just been named 2027 California Teacher of the Year!

With 20 years of experience, Mr. Maino is known for bringing history, government, and economics to life for his students. As he beautifully put it, “I think it's extremely important that we realize the culture we create in our rooms impacts the culture outside of this room.”

We have seen and appreciate the excitement about the proposed new THS stadium on the THS campus, but want to take the opportunity to clarify a key detail: Measure D’s proposed athletic upgrades go far beyond just a stadium!

In 2014 our Facilities Team utilized intensive "charrette" meetings—collaborative, multi-day design workshops bringing together community decision-makers and design experts—to map out the long-term future of our athletic facilities.

The attached schematic plan represents that collaborative vision. While minor design modifications may be necessary, this remains the core layout for THS athletics.

If approved, Measure D will install all-weather synthetic turf across ALL Tehachapi High School athletic fields, including the softball, baseball, and soccer fields.

Upgrading all of these fields to synthetic turf will:
• Provide low-maintenance, consistent play areas year-round.
• Enhance overall playability and safety for student-athletes.
• Deliver high-quality facilities appropriate for CIF competition.
• Allow Tehachapi to proudly host regional tournaments and meets.

𝗛𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸 𝗮𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝗺𝗽𝘂𝘀 𝗜𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗝𝗮𝗰𝗼𝗯𝘀𝗲𝗻 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗱𝗹𝗲 𝗦𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝗻 𝗠𝗲𝗮𝘀𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗗!

Based on the community priorities identified through the Facilities Master Plan, we are excited to share the proposed updates specifically for Jacobsen Middle School. This proposal is backed by strict accountability measures including a local Citizens’ Oversight Committee and annual independent audits ensuring funds are spent on voter-approved projects and not on salaries or operating expenses. Every dollar is protected and dedicated solely to voter-approved projects like these:

𝗝𝗠𝗦 𝗚𝘆𝗺𝗻𝗮𝘀𝗶𝘂𝗺 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
• Complete modernization of the JMS gymnasium including added HVAC (heating and cooling), new ADA-compliant bleachers, and a complete refinishing of the original hardwood court floor.
• Full remodel of the boys' and girls' restrooms and locker rooms.
• Fresh school colors, graphics, and identity updates, alongside gym roofing improvements.

𝗖𝗹𝗮𝘀𝘀𝗿𝗼𝗼𝗺 𝗠𝗼𝗱𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻
• Comprehensive modernization of the aging 100, 200, and 300 classroom wings, including updated lighting, flooring, ceilings, and windows.
• Remodeling and upgrading dedicated learning spaces, labs, and band room.
• Relocating and modernizing Special Education classrooms into permanent environments with integrated restrooms and improved accessibility.

Investing in our students’ futures while protecting our taxpayers. That is what Measure D is all about!

As election day approaches, we know our community has questions about accountability and the specific plans for our proposed school modernization projects.
We are committed to complete transparency. By securing local funding, Measure D allows TUSD to leverage our ability to modernize campuses and enhance student safety with strict taxpayer protections:
• Zero funds allowed for administration salaries or district operating expenses
• Monitored by an independent Citizens' Oversight Committee made up of Tehachapi citizens
• Independently audited on an annual basis by a Certified Public Accountant separately from the school district’s audit
• Captures $22.4M in additional State matching funds specifically for TUSD that may otherwise go to other school districts and is not guaranteed to always be available
• Sized responsibly at $29 per $100k of assessed value compared to unified school districts in Kern County averaging $105 per $100k
• Currently Tehachapi property owners are taxed $0 as all outstanding bonds have been paid off since 2022
