I had a blast working with ILMEA District 5 Senior Festival Choir at Eastern Illinois University yesterday! And so thankful for leadership and organization by Amy Lemons. The choir—made up of about 191 students—was open, thoughtful, respectful, and engaged all day.

Our intentions were:

💜care for ourselves
💜care for one another
💜sing from the heart

This week’s Substack is a personal story that made a lasting impact on my mental health and well-being.

Being 1 of 3 BIPOC students in a predominantly white school taught me about racism and how policing tactics are used in schools. After this experience, I had to normalize atrending a school and being around peers/teachers that genuinely made me feel unsafe.

At 30 years old, I am still learning what safety feels like in my body.

For the last month and a half, my Dad and I have been working together to build my Dad’s pop-up food stand 🌴 and serve our local community at the farmer’s market and local events.

At 8.5 months pregnant and my Dad just a day away from turning 70 years old, we can affirm that you can do/create/be whatever you put your whole heart into.

2 years ago, I never could have imagined our reunion leading us to be so close and creating something together that means so much to both of us.

We are so grateful for the support from our ohana + community, and we look forward to what the future holds. 🌈
