๐Ÿ‚๐ŸŽƒ FUN events are coming to The Learning Coach! ๐ŸŽƒ๐Ÿ‚

I had a blast at our Back to School event! ๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿ“
๐Ÿ˜ƒ and Iโ€™m now working on THREE fall events and Iโ€™m SO excited about them! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

๐Ÿ“š One will bring history to lifeโ€ฆ
๐ŸŒณ One will get us outside exploring natureโ€ฆ
๐ŸŽƒ And one will combine Halloween, reading, writing, and creativity!

These will be fun, hands-on opportunities for kids to learn, create, explore, and make some great memories during fall break and the Halloween season.

Space is limited to ten spots per event. Your child does not have to be enrolled at The Learning Coach to register for The Learning Coach special events! ๐Ÿ˜

โœจ Keep an eye out for the details and registration! I canโ€™t wait to share what Iโ€™ve been planning! ๐Ÿ๐Ÿ“–๐ŸŽจ

๐ŸงFrederick Douglass said, โ€œIt is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.โ€

The same can be said for education. It is much easier to build strong, confident learners now than to rebuild their academic confidence after years of them struggling. โณ๐Ÿ˜ซ

The BEST time to build strong academic skills is before small struggles become big frustrations! ๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผโœจ

The Learning Coach offers support, enrichment, remedial learning, and accelerated growth in reading, spelling, writing, comprehension, social studies, study skills and organizational help, and homework help. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿป๐Ÿ˜

If you have questions or would like more information about tutoring sessions, please message me. I am happy to help! ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ˜ƒHappy Fri-YAY!!๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐ŸŽ‰

Itโ€™s been a wonderful week checking in with my Learners and hearing about their start back to school! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ

One of my favoritesโ€ฆ โœจ
When I asked a Learner what her favorite part of school is she told me to guess. Her favorite subject is math, so I guessed math and she said no. So I went through the best parts of school: recess, lunch, your teacher, and on and on. No, no, no, and no. I give up and she chuckles and says - READING!!! And Iโ€™m like What??!!! ๐Ÿ˜ฎ๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ๐ŸŽ‰

It was just a fun and sweet moment and itโ€™s why I love doing what I do!! Watch out books! This Learner is coming for you! ๐Ÿ˜‚

Enjoy the weekend! ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿ“š Classical History Co-op! ๐Ÿ›๏ธ

History is so much more than memorizing dates and namesโ€”itโ€™s discovering the people, ideas, conflicts, inventions, religions, geography, politics, and the choices that have shaped the world we live in today. ๐ŸŒŽ

The Learning Coach History Co-op classes begin the week after Labor Day.

Students will explore history in an engaging, discussion-based, reading and writing environment with opportunities to ask questions, make connections, analyze historical events, and understand why history matters.

๐Ÿบ Ancient History (2026-2027)
๐Ÿฐ Medieval to Early Renaissance (2027-2028)
โš”๏ธ Late Renaissance & Early Modern History (2026-2027)
๐ŸŒŽ Modern History โ€” 1850 to Present (2027-2028)

Classes will be offered at multiple levels for elementary, middle, and high school students, making it possible for students to learn at the level that best fits their age and academic needs.

Whether your child LOVES history or thinks history is โ€œjust a bunch of dates,โ€ my goal is the same: make history meaningful, memorable, and fun. โค๏ธ

Message me to enroll your child or with any further questions you may have. Iโ€™m happy to help in any way I can! ๐Ÿ˜Š

๐Ÿ“–๐Ÿ‘€ What is Word Calling? ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ“–

Word calling is when a reader reads quickly, smoothly and accurately but they cannot tell you what they just read.

This usually happens because the readerโ€™s energy is going into sounding out the words, or their vocabulary is not large enough for comprehension.

How you can Help! ๐Ÿ˜
1. Have your reader stop every couple of pages and ask them to summarize what they have just read.
2. Ask them specific questions related to their reading.
3. Ask the to create a scene in their mind while they are reading and then to share that scene with you.
4. Review unfamiliar words with them and help them gain better understanding of vocabulary within the text.

โœจMonday Motivationโœจ

And just like thatโ€ฆ weโ€™re in our FIRST FULL WEEK back to school! ๐Ÿ“šโœ๏ธ

The new-school-year excitement may be wearing off a little, routines are settling in, and everyone is realizing just how early that alarm clock really is. ๐Ÿ˜ณโฐ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

This week, remember: progress over perfection.

โœ”๏ธ One good morning
โœ”๏ธ One brave attempt
โœ”๏ธ One page read
โœ”๏ธ One problem solved
โœ”๏ธ One kind choice
โœ”๏ธ One small win

Those little moments add up to BIG growth. ๐Ÿค

Parents, give yourselfโ€”and your learnersโ€”a little grace as everyone finds their rhythm. ๐Ÿ˜Š

Students, you donโ€™t have to know everything and have it all figured out. Just keep showing up, keep trying, and keep learning! Thatโ€™s the win!

Hereโ€™s to a great first FULL week! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿ“

Happy Learning! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿค

๐Ÿ“š๐ŸŽ‰Happy FriYAY! ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ“š

Two days of school are officially in the books! There have probably been some highs, some lows, and a whole lot of adjusting. ๐Ÿค

Maybe your child came home excited about their new teacher/teachers and friends.
Maybe they came home completely exhausted. ๐Ÿ˜ด
Maybe the morning routine is already running like a well-oiled machineโ€ฆor maybe youโ€™re still looking for the missing shoe at 7:42 a.m. ๐Ÿ˜‚

Either way, take a moment this weekend to reflect:

โœจ What went well?
โœจ What felt harder than expected?
โœจ What does your child seem excited about?
โœจ What might need a little tweaking before Monday?

The first few days arenโ€™t about having it all figured out. Theyโ€™re about learning the rhythm, building routines, and giving ourselvesโ€”and our kidsโ€”a little grace.

Hereโ€™s to celebrating the little wins, learning from the not-so-great moments, and heading into next week with a fresh start. ๐Ÿค Remember to
celebrate all youโ€™ve achieved this week! Do something fun that makes you and the kids feel refreshed! ๐Ÿคฉ

Happy FriYAY, families! You made it! ๐Ÿฅณ๐ŸŽ

๐Ÿ“๐Ÿ˜ƒHappy First Day Back SCPS!๐Ÿ˜ƒ๐Ÿ“

๐ŸšŒ๐Ÿ“šHappy Back to School!๐Ÿ“š๐ŸšŒ

Wishing all students a wonderful start to the school year. And this wish is for ALL students, but especially 6th graders! I have taught all grade levels and grades 6-12 in public schools. SIXTH GRADERS are SUPER STARS!! โœจ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

โฐ They have to wake an hour earlier (especially at a time their bodies are needing more rest)
๐ŸšŒ Bus riders now ride with high schoolers
๐Ÿซ 6th graders go from being the oldest to the youngest and in a building new to them
๐Ÿ› They no longer get daily recess
๐ŸŽ‰ They no longer have class
Parties
๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿซ They go from one class and special areas to 7 different classes and teachers with all different routines and procedures
๐Ÿš™ For car riders, those first few days without a car rider number is โ€ฆ different and to some, even scary.
๐Ÿ‘ฉ๐Ÿผโ€๐Ÿ’ผ They experience all new admin and adults in their new school
๐Ÿ‘ง๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ‘ฆ๐ŸฝThey also have new classmates as elementary schools merge to middle
๐Ÿ•š They switch classes and are nervous about their schedules โ€ฆ. Just for a few days ๐Ÿ˜Š
๐Ÿ”› I could go on and onโ€ฆ friendships, adolescence, changes their bodies go through, belonging, identity, etc.

6th graders and all students, do a lot of GROWING! ๐ŸŒฑ So 6th graders and students, be patient with yourself. Itโ€™s a lot to process. It can feel very overwhelming but it gets easier! And the challenge and struggle is fun on the other side! The independence you achieve and earn and responsibility you can feel great about!

Students, you donโ€™t have to achieve it all on day one or even week 1. ๐Ÿ˜Š Very rarely, if ever, have I had all my laundry caught up, house clean, dishes washed, car clean, errands ran. Life is a balance. So pick one thing to focus on for the school year and start there! Focus, organization, academic growth, learning something everyday, being kind, honestโ€ฆ you pick your goal! How are you showing up this year?!

If you have or know a 6th grader, please share. โ˜บ๏ธ

Have a fantastic year everybody!! ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

Happy Learning! ๐Ÿ“š๐Ÿค

๐Ÿ“ฃโœจLearner Shout Out! โœจ๐Ÿ“ฃ

So proud of this Learner - for her hard work and incredible growth! ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ™Œ๐Ÿผ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

๐Ÿค” Did you know the fear of public speaking is called glossophobia and that it affects 75% of people?

Tori came to The Learning Coach wanting to build confidence in reading out loud and speaking publicly! She put the work in and I believe excelled at her goals!

Good Speakersโ€ฆ.
๐Ÿ†™Look up
๐Ÿ“ฃSpeak with expression
๐Ÿ˜ƒSmile
โธ๏ธPause- donโ€™t rush
๐Ÿค”Know their topic
๐Ÿ’กDiscover their voice
๐Ÿ‘€Make eye contact
๐ŸŽคVoice projection
๐Ÿงโ€โ™€๏ธGood posture
๐Ÿ‘๐ŸปShow confidence
๐Ÿง˜๐Ÿผโ€โ™€๏ธLearn to take that slow first breath before starting.

Andโ€ฆ. before Tori could even get to what good speakers do, she had to learn about her topic, which practices reading fluency. ๐Ÿ“–She learned notetaking and research skills. ๐Ÿ“She practice writing skills and how to organize her information. She practice delivering her speak and memorization. ๐Ÿง

Congrats Tori on your successful speech! ๐ŸŽ‰
Iโ€™m so proud of you for setting a goal for yourself and working hard to achieve it! Canโ€™t wait to hear how you use what you learned this year at school! ๐ŸšŒ Keep practicing and growing! I had so much fun learning about Queen Victoria with you. ๐Ÿ‘‘
