I love being the principal at Bennion Elementary and feel incredibly fortunate to be part of such a wonderful school community! 💙💛

This is my 19th year in education, and I’ve loved every chapter of my career—from teaching junior high English, to serving as a district instructional and literacy coach, to becoming an administrator. I feel truly lucky to be part of a profession where every day brings opportunities to make a difference in a child’s life.

My connection to Granite School District goes way back—I grew up attending school in the district and even met my husband at Skyline High School. We’ve now been married for 30 years and have four grown children, along with a brand-new granddaughter who joined our family this summer! ❤️

When I’m not at school, I love traveling, hiking, boxing classes, and going to live concerts. I’m excited for another great year at Bennion and feel so grateful to be a Bobcat! 🐾

Let’s welcome our new assistant principal, Ami Reidford. Here is more from Ami.

My name is Ami Reidford. I am starting year 21 in education. Over those 21 years, I have taught third grade, worked with struggling readers in grades K-6. I have also worked extensively with adult learners through supporting new teachers, and instructional coaching.

My hobbies include being outside and going on adventures with my family. My husband also works in Granite School District. We have a 13 year old son.

What a fantastic first day of school at Bennion Elementary! 💙💛

Our students were greeted this morning by a very special new friend—our brand-new Bobcat mascot! 🐾 We are so excited to have our Bobcat cheering on our students throughout the school year.

But there’s one important thing missing… a name! 👀

We want ALL of our Bennion students to help us choose the perfect name for our new friend! 🐾 Students will have the opportunity to submit their ideas, and we’ll soon vote to select the winning name.

Dear Bennion Families,

We are so excited to welcome our 1st–5th grade Bobcats back to school tomorrow morning! 🐾💙💛

We have a few special things planned to help make the first day extra fun:

📸 1st Day of School Yard Signs will be out in front of the school for families to take pictures and celebrate the new school year!

🐾 A special guest will also be here to welcome our students as they arrive in the morning. You won’t want to miss it!

⏰ First bell: 8:10 a.m.
🍎 Breakfast doors open: 7:45 a.m.

Please take a moment to review our parking lot drop-off procedures before arriving tomorrow. Following these procedures helps us keep all of our Bobcats safe and ensures that everyone gets to school safely and efficiently.

Let’s welcome Angel Cummings to our school. Angel is our new literacy coach. She will be supporting teachers to climb even higher in student literacy success. Here is a message from Angel.

Hello! My name is Angel Cummings, and I am the new literacy coach at Bennion Elementary. I taught 2nd and 3rd grade at Redwood Elementary for 10 years before spending the last three years as a literacy coach at Fremont Elementary.

In my spare time, I enjoy running, biking, hiking, and spending time with my family. I also LOVE animals and enjoy supporting the efforts of CAWS (Community Animal Welfare Society). Another passion of mine is historical fiction—I love sitting down with a good book. You might even run into me at Lagoon going on my favorite roller coasters!
I am excited to join Bennion and its wonderful teachers. My goal is to provide the best possible support to teachers so they can be their best selves. I look forward to meeting the Bennion community and becoming part of this amazing school!

Let’s give a big welcome to Alev Arli! She is our visual arts teacher.

Here is a little bit about Ms. Arli.

I am a native of Turkiye, where I earned my BA degree in teaching German and Turkish. In 1992, I became licensed to teach German in junior high and high school. I left Turkiye for Japan soon afterwards. I lived in Fukuoka, Japan for two years. After I immigrated to the United States, I received an MA in German literature at the University of Utah and later returned to the University of Utah for a Masters degree in Elementary School Education. I have four endorsements by the Utah State of Education. I am also DRA, Next Steps, Mastery Connect and Leader in Me trained.

I am an Intelligence Officer in the US Army, currently placed in the I.R.R. Shortly after I resigned from the Utah Army National Guard, I was promoted to first lieutenant. My rank was a first lieutenant when I left the Utah Army National Guard. Before I left my unit, I was told I was going to start as a captain if I return to the U.S. Army.

Bennion Elementary is a very good school and I am very happy to be here.

Our teachers are back, and we had a fantastic first morning together! 🎉

We spent the day learning, collaborating, building our teams, and preparing for an amazing school year ahead. We also introduced our new school theme, Courage to Climb, and kicked off our very first Bobcat Expedition.

As part of the challenge, teacher teams raced to build the tallest freestanding mountain strong enough to support their Bobcat. 🏔️🐾 Creativity, teamwork, and a little friendly competition were on full display!
