Fox Hills loves reading! We have been busy reading all summer, and hope you have too!

We have an awesome program at our school for our 4th and 5th graders called Battle of the Books . Students read books from a well curated list of 15 (they are always awesome), and then they get chances to earn prizes and compete with trivia from the books.

Dear Fox Hills Families and Community Members,

In February, our Board of Education approved an update to district policy regarding animals on school property. Under this updated policy, dogs are no longer permitted on school campuses at any time, including outside of school hours. Click here for the full updated policy https://drive.google.com/file/d/13JoSQrrqvj9_QyOYzZlyU5xHbjwi91Ts/view.

We know that many of our community members have enjoyed walking their dogs on school grounds in the past, and we appreciate the care and pride people take in our shared spaces. However, this change was made to help us maintain clean, safe, and welcoming environments for students and staff. Despite our best efforts, pet waste has increasingly become an issue on school grounds, creating challenges for students during recess, physical education, outdoor activities, building rentals, as well as for our custodial teams. Many schools have been forced to keep extra clothes on hand for students whose clothes become soiled with pet waste, and some schools are using funds to pay for outside companies to clean waste off the fields. We have also had multiple students bitten by dogs during school hours around Granite School District.

It is important to understand that these campuses were built primarily for the purpose of educating children with public use as a secondary benefit. Our campuses will continue to be a welcome place for public use after school hours and during the summer when school activities are not taking place. We are asking for your cooperation in helping us keep our campuses clean and safe by not bringing dogs onto school property moving forward. By working together, we can ensure that our campuses remain places where students can learn and play without avoidable and costly disruptions.

We will work with our law enforcement partners as appropriate to enforce this policy.

Thank you for your understanding and for your continued support of our schools.

Sincerely,

Granite School District

We have music classes coming this year to Fox Hills! Students will attend as part of their normal school week and get a chance to exercise their brains in a different way. We are thrilled to welcome Hailey Diehl as our music teacher.

Hello :) My name is Hailey Diehl, and I am the new BTS Music Specialist at Fox Hills! I am so excited to be a part of this wonderful community and get to know all of your young musicians. I have a degree in Music Education from Michigan State University. I also have additional certifications in teaching early childhood music (birth - 9 years old)! I love creating a classroom where students can explore their creativity, connect with music and others, and gain confidence as life-long musicians.

Outside of school and music, my hobbies include hiking, camping, rock climbing, yoga, crafting, and reading! My husband and I moved to Utah from Michigan about four years ago so he could attend the University of Utah for graduate school (and be closer to mountains). I can't wait to begin this school year and start making music with the Fox Hills community!!

We are so lucky to have two intern teachers join us as Fox Hills Foxes. The University of Utah chooses their top candidates for these positions, so they come very highly recommended. This program provides such great opportunities for Fox Hills and for building strong educators. Our first new teacher is Avery Kuehnl:

Hello! My name is Avery Kuehnl, and I'm so excited to be starting my first year as a first grade teacher!

Outside of school, I love being creative through art and crafting, traveling to new places, reading, and spending quality time with my family, friends, and my three cats.

I'm looking forward to building relationships with my students and making this school year full of learning, growth, and fun!
