📣 SCES PTO NEEDS YOU 💙

As many of our current board members’ kids move on to middle school, we are facing multiple open positions for next year’s PTO board. These are volunteer positions filled by parent/guardian of students at Spencer County Elementary School

We’ll be honest—this is a critical time for our PTO.
Without parents stepping into these roles, the PTO may not be able to continue.

And that matters.

Our PTO helps bridge the gap where school funding ends-supporting things like staff appreciation, school improvements, and student programs. APEX, Birthday Books, Glow Week, Family Fun Night, The 5th grade send off, special area grants, and field trip funding are things PTO currently fund.

✨ The good news:
You don’t have to do it alone. We are a team, and we will support you every step of the way. The PTO Board is made up of 9 people.

If you’ve ever thought about getting involved, this is your moment. Whether you have a lot of time or just a little, there is a place for you.

Last night was hard. 💔 But our support doesn’t end now. The PTO exists to connect families, educators, and our community in support of our schools and that doesn’t end when things get hard.

We recognize that the district is facing difficult financial decisions, and we respect the responsibility of district leadership and the Board of Education in navigating those challenges. Our goal is not to criticize, but to be part of a thoughtful and collaborative solution.

Spencer County is unique because of its size. We are special in that way. And what happened last night doesn’t change that. Our teachers ARE our neighbors, our friends, and our family. We have always shown up for each other and we will continue to do so through this as well.

We know many in our community have questions and concerns about the proposed budget decisions and their impact on our teachers and our students. While questions remain, there is a deadline approaching for our board to make decisions.

We’ve created a statement from PTO to share our perspective. See below.

💙 Cub Families 🐻
You came along with us on this new fundraising journey with Apex — and you absolutely brought it! Thanks to you, we well exceeded our goal!

A huge thank you to SCES administration and staff for trusting us with this big change and for encouraging our students every step of the way. It was amazing watching our Cubs stay motivated, take on challenges, and truly embrace the leadership lessons taught over the last two weeks.

Because of the generous support of our families and community, we raised $49,642! 🙌
And the best part? 100% of this money goes right back into our school to support programs and initiatives that benefit every student.

This includes upcoming teacher grants for classroom projects and funding to improve shared spaces throughout the building. While we’re still finalizing where every dollar will go, stay tuned — we’re excited to announce plans for a cafeteria makeover, transforming it into a fun, collaborative space for all our Cubs to enjoy!

💙📚 Our Book Fair at SCES wouldn’t happen without parent volunteers! This week during Grandparents Week, our halls are full of kids, grandparents, and books — and it’s truly special.

Because of school construction, we weren’t able to set up in the gym like usual. Instead, our Book Fair is tucked right into the main hallway. It’s been crowded, a little tricky at times, but our parent volunteers have stepped up in the biggest way to make sure students and grandparents still get this special experience. Mr. Scott & Mrs. Dennis have checked on us, offered support, and thanked our volunteers over and over. All while helping park cars and directing grandparents into the building around the chaos of construction.

Every dollar raised goes right back to our kids — including funding our book vending machine where every student gets a birthday book each year. 🎂📖

Thank you grandparents for your patience and flexibility during this time of change. We are so grateful to every parent volunteer who makes this possible. Your time and energy mean that hundreds of kids get to experience the joy of choosing their own books. 💛
