Dr. Becky Bailey’s Baby Doll Circle 👶🏽👶🏼👶🏿👶🏽

Attachment is the foundation for all learning.
Baby Doll Circle Time strengthens the child-caregiver bond by encouraging nurturing interactions in a calm, predictable setting.

Children internalize how they are treated.
By caring for the baby doll, children re-enact how they are cared for—this helps them build empathy, emotional regulation, and trust.

Dolls serve as emotional mirrors.
Caring for a doll gives children a safe, symbolic way to express and process their own emotions.

Routines create safety.
The circle time follows a consistent, predictable structure (greeting, activities, closing), which helps children feel secure.

Imitating caregiving behavior develops empathy.
Children learn to recognize feelings and respond kindly—first to the doll, then to peers and caregivers.

Language is key.
The caregiver uses rich, descriptive, and emotionally supportive language during the interaction (e.g., “You’re holding your baby so gently. That’s kind.”)

Face-to-face connection is essential.
Eye contact and warm expressions during baby doll play foster connection and emotional attunement.

Touch is a powerful teaching tool.
Gentle, respectful touch (e.g., patting the baby doll or giving hugs) supports bonding and brain development.

Adult modeling matters.
Caregivers model how to treat the doll with love and care, showing children what healthy relationships look and feel like.

It’s a healing practice for children who’ve experienced trauma.
Baby Doll Circle Time can help children rebuild trust and form healthy attachments if they've had disrupted early relationships.
