What started as a lesson on the letter/sound combination **UR** took an unexpected (and delicious!) turn!
As we worked with words containing the /ur/ sound, we came across the word **churn**. When we realized that many of our students had never heard the word before, we knew we had to show them what it meant! We demonstrated the process and even watched a Mystery Science video that showed just how simple it can be to turn cream into butter.
So, for our final day of Summer Boost, we decided there was only one thing left to do: **churn our own butter!**
The students got to experience the process firsthand, working to shake and churn the cream until—like magic—it transformed into butter. Of course, we couldn't make butter without trying a little taste, so we finished our lesson with a simple snack before heading on our way.
It was the perfect way to wrap up our summer learning: a little phonics, a little science, a lot of teamwork, and a tasty reminder that sometimes the best learning adventures are the ones you never planned!

Our high school volleyball teams wrapped up our annual Conditioning & Spirit Week! 💪🏐
Over 45 athletes spent the week training, building strength, and growing together through conditioning and team-building activities. Each day featured a fun theme, including Family Game Night and Relay Day, with the week finishing on Red & White Day. To celebrate all of their hard work, the athletes got to choose their favorite conditioning drills for the final day.
Tryouts for our Varsity, JV, and Freshman teams will be held August 10–11.
Congratulations to all of our athletes for the dedication, effort, and positive attitude they showed this week. We can't wait to see you at tryouts!
