🎸 Bandstand Live Rock Academy — Where Students Get to Rock Out

If you've ever wanted to learn guitar, bass, drums, piano, or voice... or always thought it would be cool to play in a band, there's a place right here in Taunton making that happen for people of all ages.

Bandstand Live Rock Academy, located at 391 W Water St., offers individual lessons and something you don't see everywhere: small-group rock band classes. Not a recital program or a rigid curriculum. The idea is closer to how a real garage band comes together. Small groups, real songs, and eventually a performance on an actual production stage with professional lighting, sound, and a multi-camera video shoot. Students don't just learn to play, they learn what it feels like to perform.

Owner and instructor Matt Scurfield has been teaching drums privately for years. When he launched the Academy in 2018, the goal was to expand that into something bigger with more instruments, more options, and more of a community around it. That vision recently got a boost through a new partnership with The Guitar Player School (also known as Taunton Guitar Lessons), bringing students from both programs together to form rock band classes. Group classes for Guitar Player School students are now available at the Bandstand Live location on W Water St.

And this Saturday, April 18th from 4–6 PM, the Academy is hosting a live student rock concert, open to the public. Tickets are just $5 at the door (cash or Venmo), and kids under 12 get in free. If you want to see what these students have been working toward, this is the show.

Anyone who signs up for lessons or classes after seeing this feature gets a free trial lesson.
