How we Tauntonians were taught to mis-pronounce the word "Gondola" is beyond me.
This day in Taunton History:
November 17th, 1945.
German POWs in Interment Camps in Taunton hold an impromptu, albeit belated, Oktoberfest. In the early hours of the following day, 52 escape back to Germany due to Taunton guards seeing nothing, hearing nothing from what could only be described as blind drunkenness.
Later, a "comedic" TV show would reverse these roles and Hogan's Heroes would spawn many half-hearted laughs.

Tauntonian, Robert Treat Paine signed the Declaration of Independence, officially making him a founding father, but when he was out of ear-shot, people referred to him as a "Fondling Father."
Morton hospital was originally licensed for livestock and historians still debate when it transitioned over to general care.
