This day in Taunton History:
November 17th, 1945.
German POWs in Interment Camps in Taunton hold an impromptu, albeit belated, Oktoberfest. In the early hours of the following day, 52 escape back to Germany due to Taunton guards seeing nothing, hearing nothing from what could only be described as blind drunkenness.
Later, a "comedic" TV show would reverse these roles and Hogan's Heroes would spawn many half-hearted laughs.

Did you know: Early Taunton Settler, Shadrach Wilbore once ate an entire Thanksgiving Feast on his own, thus earning the moniker "The Feasty Boy". Some rap group would later immortalize the feat in both song and name.
