The Guitar Player School

Great lesson yesterday! I truly learned a lot. Thank you!
Chris Couture ehhhh?
After 6 months with Josh I am AMAZED! The progress is incredible. It's amazing how we learn a song...but more. He expands our learning by having us play chords differently by knowledge of the fretboard. Learning a song is more than just learning or playing several chords. We learn how to move about the fretboard. Learn how to use the chords differently to apegiate and more.

Everyone has that initial spark that called them to start playing guitar. It is a divine intervention or a call, and the sooner that call is answered, the sooner you will reap the rewards your soul is asking for.

If you feel like you're playing has grown stale
If you don't have 8 hours a day to practice
If you have been searching random FB groups and YT videos for that next big Ah-Ha and haven't found it
If you're guitar playing feels stale
If you don't feel like you can hang when you jam with others

You owe it to yourself to try something new, get proper TRAINING, and get back on track.

DM me if you want to talk about breaking the cycle and finding freedom on the fretboard.

Intermediate guitar players have the biggest potential for massive fretboard breakthroughs when 3 things happen:

1. They figure out the gaps in their fretboard knowledge.
2. They systematically learn how to use and apply new information.
3. They learn the right information in the right order.

๐Ÿคž Let's face it. It's totally possible to figure this out alone, lots of guitar players have.

๐Ÿ˜ง Many more however have forever remained the same guitarist they were 20 years ago.

If this sounds like you, I invite you to book a strategy session with me to discuss how we can identify the gaps in your playing and create a game plan so you can hit your goals and save years of frustration. ๐ŸŽฏ

Using fretboard layers of I V chord progressions 09/21/2021

Using fretboard layers of I V chord progressions

-Are you lost with trying to learn the fretboard, improvise more creativly and use more of the fretboard?
-This video demonstrates why it's so important to learn the fretboard in the right order
-It gives you so many options.
-When guitar players are confused about using modes, it's because

Don't know the notes on the guitar
Don't know the why behind each shape on the guitar, they just think "shape".
Don't know any voice leading principles so they're hopping around everywhere with the 1 shape they do know
Don't have any way of integrating it all together.

I give some examples of breaking it down in this video. Type "More" in the comments if you want a deep breakdown of this lesson.

You don't have the vantage point or experience to know which pieces you are missing, what pieces to learn next and tie it together strategically.
You've probably tried online guitar courses
but you've gotten depressing results
And it's getting worse day by dayโ€ฆโ€‹
The main thing I emphasize to my clients is to make sure that they're enjoying the process so that the process can unfold.
I'm sure you are well aware of the importance of being disciplined in your practice
but have you ever stopped to think about what that really means?โ€‹
Practicing consistently also means knowing what NOT to practice
Let's look at it this way: if your not happy with your progress, you'll stop practicing.
It's that simple... โ€‹
And when that happens, then everything goes backwards, quickly.
... In order to be motivated at first (๐˜ข๐˜ต ๐˜ง๐˜ช๐˜ณ๐˜ด๐˜ต)โ€‹ โ€‹
You need to make sure you know what your short term targets are, and then only work on tasks that will get you there.
You can not be successful if you do this in reverse.
You need to know what type of guitarists you want to become before anything else...โ€‹
And once you know that, you'll need to figure out take inventory of the skills you already have, and skills you need to acquire
Then focus on how to get strengthen the weaknesses in your playing.
There's only so many core musical skills you need to develop, but are often neglected.
The process of creating the perfect practice strategy must be customized,
at just the right time, โ€‹
with just the right amount of challenge to fun ratio, this is a science that needs to be practiced, daily! โ€‹
I do not care how long you've been playing, how many hours you practice
What separates very good guitarists from great ones?...โ€‹
The difference comes down to one thing: โ€‹
>>> Following a practice strategy!

Learning lots of theory does not help you improve as a guitar player if you never use the knowledge you gained in a musical way. Any music theory concepts should be used in creative ways to gain maximum benefit.

Studying with a great teacher can shave years off of your learning journey as a guitar player, or prevent you from quitting when you are about to give up.

Learning a little bit of piano can greatly help your understanding of music theory and consequently your creativity on the guitar.

Have all of your practice materials, music stands, tuners and guitars readily available so that when you decide to practice, you can grab your guitar and get right to business. When you have to search for everything before you start practicing? Your will power and focus will be negatively affected before you even begin.

Doing rapid hammer ons and pull offs on a daily basis (known as trills) is a great way to strengthen the fingers, increase their speed and endurance.
