With 36 years as an educator in the Taunton Public Schools (TPS), including serving as a Math and Computer Teacher and later as the Math Curriculum Supervisor at Taunton High School (THS) for 13 years, Donna brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the table. Her commitment to education is evident through her involvement in various educational committees, covering a wide range of topics such as curriculum revision, school accreditation, budgeting, technology integration, and teacher mentorship, among others. Donna's dedication to improving education extends beyond the classroom, as she has presented at prestigious institutions like Harvard University's Summer Institute and the Mathematics and Computer Science Collaborative. She holds a Bachelor's degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Stonehill College, a Masters in Educational Computers from Fitchburg State College, and a CAGS in Educational Leadership from Bridgewater State University. As a lifelong Taunton resident and alumna of THS, Donna has deep roots in the community and has been actively involved in various roles, including being a CCD teacher, Girls Scout Leader, PTA President, Taunton Youth Soccer coach, cheerleading coach, and Jacki Sorensen aerobic dancer. She is also the wife of retired firefighter David Chaves, and a proud mother to Ashleigh Chaves-O'Hearn, an educator in Taunton Public Schools and Miss Taunton 2013 and Bryan Chaves, a Taunton Police Officer and THS School Resource Officer. With her integrity, honesty, and extensive experience, Donna Chaves is the ideal candidate to lead and make a positive impact on the school committee.
