Congratulations to the high school class of 2024!

In the 2023-24 school year, we worked with more seniors than ever before. We assisted them in brainstorming essay topics, developing activity lists, and writing their final personal statements and supplemental essays.

We love this work. We strive to humanize students and empower them with self-awareness and confidence as they embark on different college and career paths.

Each senior we worked with last year will start college in the fall. We are happy for and proud of them. We can’t wait to see the impact they will have on their campus communities. Check out where they will be attending!

“A mentor is someone who allows you to see the hope inside yourself.” - Oprah Winfrey

Last week, we returned to to facilitate our InnerView Workshop for the younger cohorts of (6th-9th graders). In the workshops, the scholars reflected on challenges they’ve faced in their lives. They dug into these challenges and pulled out learnings from those experiences. They projected forward how those lessons impact them.

High school mentors were present in each workshop. They aided the younger scholars in their journeys of self-reflection. The high school mentors encouraged the younger scholars to see the hope and growth inside of their daily experiences.

“Go forth and spread beauty and light.” - Hackley School motto

Yesterday, we facilitated a Personal Statement Workshop with the founding cohorts of Hackley School’s Hudson Scholars program. Scholars reflected on who they are (their beauty and light) and then practiced storytelling how they will go forth and share that in their personal statements. Hackley’s school motto aligns well to what these students will do in their college applications, their college experiences, and beyond.

How do you spread your beauty and light with our world?

“I don’t know anything about you unless you tell me.” - ChatGPT

In today’s world, it’s more important than ever for students to understand their unique human value. Automation and artificial intelligence are continuing to accelerate. Jobs we used to think of as irreplaceable are being replaced by machines and computers. Human skills like empathy, empowerment of others, strategic vision, and self-awareness will not only get us jobs in the future, they will help us manage modern global complexities.

This is why we help students write personal statements for college applications. We foster introspection and community building so students may learn more about who they are and what values they have. This is why we call it NOT JUST a College Essay Course.

Tell me about yourself.

For the last month, InnerView facilitated a professional development for TALMA Teaching Fellowships. Each Teaching Fellow created and presented a Theory of Change to the community. To do this, they first reflected on moments as students and educators when they experienced challenge or frustration. Then, they theorized the forces, mindsets, or behaviors, that could lead to a more optimal learning environment. Lastly, they articulated the actions and interventions they would carry out within their educational ecosystem in order to make progress towards their theory of change. At the end, Fellows shared they felt more connected, inspired, and focused than before.

Thank you to each Fellow for diving inwards and then sharing outwards. We’re lucky to have conscious leaders like you in the global classroom.

How are your actions contributing to change in our world? What is your theory of change?
